1986 iroc with 5.7 on ebay

i thought it was not possible to have 1986 iroc with 5.7 engine, but if true this iroc is authentic it would be extremly rare .

There were 350 prototypes circulating in 86. Some were given to the press to generate interest in the car. Initially, plans supposedly existed to sell the cars in the 86 model year. The 350 option would be restricted to non- ac cars in a package somewhat like the later 1le cars. However, as far as I know, none were sold to the public in 86. The car on ebay has had the emblem swapped, or a motor swap, etc. It is clearly a high content car that someone took the liberty of "updating". Thanks, Oldtimer.

Car: I've had 4 thrid gens!!
Engine: Someday again I will have another!!
Orginally a 305 car, eight digit of the VIN is F. (8=350)
Looks like no one swapped that motor out. The guy simply added badges like Oldtimer said. People are so dishonest!

Check the Vin # and the letter (F) and its a 305 TPI car. Again claim its a 350 and sell to the unknowing.

Too bad whoever was trying to knock this car off as a 350 car wasnt smart enough to add the "5.7L Tuned Port Injection" decals below the rocker emblems also. Or decode a VIN. There are just too many uneducated people out there.

Look at his tachometer, the yellow starts at 5000 rpms. Mine starts at 4500rpms. Did he switch out the gauge cluster for a 350 car's cluster?
I just emailed him asking him if it is indeed a 350, because his VIN # indicates its a 305. -Nick

the tach is the confusing part, may be it was changed.

but did the original 1986 350 prototypes come with #8 in vin?

Just for the non believers amongst us, the March 1986 issue of Hot Rod Magazine had the article "Titlebout III" in which the 1986 IROC 350 was compared to a 5.0 Mustang. The proposal was to build only 1000 cars, all without ac for the 86 model year. The cars WERE shown to the press for evaluation and testing. I cannot find my copy of that one, but I do have the June 1986 issue with editorials from readers about the March article. By June, it had become clear that the cars probably would not be built for the public in 1986, but prototypes DID exist and were sent out for press review. Keep in mind that the March article was probably written at least 2-3 months before publication, and you have honest to God 350 IROC's running around at the end of 1985 or beginning of 1986! I hope that clears the air over the existence of pre 1987 350 IROC prototypes. Thanks, Oldtimer.

Yes, the 86 L98 prototypes were build, but some people insist on believing that some of them still exist and were sold to the public.

They are kinda like Sasquatch. You hear about them, and somebody, somewhere had a third cousin who had one, but no one can produce the real deal! Thanks, Oldtimer.

i dont think grid rear lights were avaliable in 86. seems like a lot of work for a guy to switch engines and switch clusters so the tach has the correct red line. but if he did all that work, why didnt he put on the decals that go with the 5.7?

The grid style tail lights came out in 1985 with the slight redesign of the Z28 and addition of the IROC-Z model. Please people do some research befor you post random BS. This is why there are so many people out there who insist that they have 85-86 L98 cars or L98s with a 5-speed. Misinformation is rampant on these boards and its sad.

They added an update stating that after they ran a title search it is in fact a 5.0.

Car and Driver and I think Road+Track also drove them. C+D announced in their article that at the time of printing, they wouldnt be available until 1987.

He did get back to me and stated that it is indeed a 305. I was shocked that he got back to me. Maybe so many people called him on this that he had to do it.

Like I said before, he would of sold it as a 350 and probably still will to some unknowing buyer.
Just like some people who still think there are 350s in 1986 model Camaros.

He also updated the listing. So some one would have to not be that brite to spend that much money without reading the ad.

It is suppose to be the original motor. I will check later today about the matching numbers. It is a 5.0 not a 5.7. I did a vehicle history report and I have made revisions of the description. If you have any questions call me at 828-320-7027. I will be happy to talk with you.
thanks
Dwight

Thats what his reply to me was. I think he knew all along that it was a 305, what a *****!! -Nick.

At least 1 bidder retracted his bid due to the error in Engine Size. Another bidder had his bid canceled because he had 0 feedback. The Bid has fallen nearly $2000 since they restated the engine correctly.
