the cable doesnt attach to that part, the cable is on the key lock cylinder and housing part
separate
see that slot in the round part there? a long skinny flat piece comes off the end of the key lck plastic housing assembly and slides into that slot there
you will see when you take it apart
i have a latch assembly stored away in the attic that has an eelctric popper hatch latch release solenoid on it
just like power trunk on non f-body sedans and coupes

no one seems to want it i tried advertising it, to no avail, so to the shredder it will go
the latch assembly is the same as any other except the pull solenoid and pull cable are bolted to it, is an option

If your car currently has an electric "Pull Down" motor your best bet is to simply unplug it.
That's not correct. If I'm not mistaken the pull down motor uses an additional bracket that's spot welded to the body. I can remember wanting to install the pull down in my 84 years back and not being able to because I didn't have the bracket.
Here's a picture of the bracket used to mount the pull down motor; I Drilled it from a car in case I decide to install a pull down in my 84 at a later time.

You might be able to install a 82-84 Manual latch - but you MIGHT need to drill the spot welds from the bracket and remove it from the car before installing the manual latch. You WILL need a new lock because the lock for the pull down is not compatible with the manual lock ( as previously described ) .
P.S. I've got Electric Pull down availible for $50 shipped.

I've got an 86 and an 87 that both use this type of Pull Down hatch motor. With the prices junk yards around here are gettting for third gen parts these days I'd have to be
to sell it for less than $40 + shipping.
