How's this look? Gold guage beezel

Worked hard today painting door trim, steering wheel bolts, beezel, ash tray, pedals all gold trimmed.
I am experimenting with painting dash air vent covers gold. Would they look good all gold? I tried a broken one since I have to replace it anyway. I cleaned them up real good, and the ducts and they look good, don't know if I should try to paint them to custom color interior. Ash tray looks good gold and so does beezel. I have Gold blinking arrows now for turn signals instead of green. Looks good. Ideas? Can't post enough pics of the work I did today in this thread! See the next thread post: " More gold pics"

I like the gauge bezels a lot. But I think the gold air vents may be too "Pimp My Ride".

The gold dash on the 2nd gen is gold, but they called it the "machine turned" dash because the swirls were accomplished with a cutter bit in a milling machine. I like the gold you have for around the bezels, but I think you should keep the vents and everything else the stock colors. It would seem too overdone to have everything painted gold. The gold bezels in my opinion would accent the rest of the black interior very well. With that said forget what I said and do what you want with your car.

I think all of it looks cheap and tacky, even the gauges.

I agree with Jim85IROC it does look kind of tacky. Now maybe if you had silver it would look more normal.

Then it would just look cheap instead of cheap and tacky.

Dang ! Jim ya sure are harsh. It's not a show car anyway, just trying to work with what I have. I guess my time and resources are not as great as others. Thanks for the honest opinion though. Excuse me while I go Sharpie on some window tint! ( Like the idea? LOL !)
TigerZ, The 1st pic was the finished cluster, the 2nd pic was whats behind the cluster before I put the front cluster panel on. Painting the metal cluster beezel under it gave it gold depth. Then I just painted the inside edges of the cluster panel cover, The whole thing isn't gold.

Those who don't immediately get offended by me usually realize that getting an honest opinion is more valuable than getting a bunch of half-hearted responses from people who are too polite to say what they're actually thinking.

I tell my friend all this time that certian choices he made look down right ugly. Like chrome wheels...... thank goodness he got rid of them, or rather never put them on the car. I tell him as long as he likes it then dont worry about y opinion. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one.......

Yes, but when someone spends their time and efforts and posts the pics for comments I usually use some tact.
Not like the way you expressed your opinion and then re-expressed it a second time, saying: " Then it would be just cheap instead of cheap and tacky."
I am actually thinking that, saying what you're actually thinking in most cases is a bad idea. Let's all go around saying what we actually think! Try that at work sometime or with the wife.
Of course someone would think you were attacking them and their standards due to the extremely poor way to say: "I don't like it ".
I have seen pics of your beautiful car and respect that it is in that condition due to your high standards of "show-car-ness" (credit to you).
I just started on my car and would love to have deep enough pockets to restore mine to that same standard. I unfortunately have to cut corners.

Thanks again for the honest opinion, (Glad I didn't roof my dash pad yet!)
LOL ! JUST KIDDING !

You're right, I don't have much tact. Never have. I say what I think, the way I think it.

As for having the money to restore your car to "my standard", trust me, if it took money, mine wouldn't look very good. I have very little money to use on my car, and that's forced me to choose my upgrades very carefully.

I see a lot of young guys spray bomb their interior and walk away thinking that the car somehow looks better for it. I'm usually pretty vocal in my opinion in hopes that they'll take a more conservative approach and discover that a tasteful car usually doesn't get that way with Krylon.

Thats nothing, i *preped* my spray bombed krylon interior...looks great to me though. Of course in my opinion...no matter what you do its still cheap plastic that you cant get past...so i made the best of it and that sure beats cheap red interior plastic.

I'm going to agree with the "cheap" look. It looks completely out of place. Contrasting colors brings attention to things, maybe you shouldn't make people focus on air vents and brake pedals (they're very boring parts of cars!). I don't like the gauges either, just looks out of place.

I think he was trying to tie in the gold exterior trim to the interior. I still kinda like the bezels.

I realize that, but like I said why bring attention to those areas? How about a gold gas tank lid?

Someone might think its real gold plated and sell it for $5. I dont thing think the gas tank lid should be a different color, too much contrast for my taste. I do kind of like the idea of painting the gauges, just maybe a dark red or hell keep it black. Got 2 to play with anyways.

My whole point was really that my car has burnt red & gold exterior and tan & black interior. All chrome, silver or even white looks like crap in my car while gold is perfect. I gave up on the air vent experiment and am going BACK IN BLACK ! Those above were right, too tacky. Pedals look better gold with black traction dot rivets because as I said they were silver.

On a 5 speed, why not draw attention to the pedals?
(No I'm not a Lawyer !) LOL
