Meh. A nice concept but I plan on building a box for one of my seats that goes all the way level to the hatch storage.

 

that is an awsome idea... i ripped the back seat out of mine when i put my new carpet in. i been thinking of building some my self, i think ill just by them though!

 

I did a cover using plywood and carpet. I used cardboard to get the shape. To avoid any permanent mountig I used the arm rests to support the deck piece. I then closed in below with three pieces also covered with carpet. Actually, the rear seat is still under it!

 

Im not sure the use of this, cant you just fold the back portion of the seat down?....and doesnt the box just add weight?....I know these foam seats are light as hell.

 

yea the whole rear seat assmly doesn't weigh anywhere near 45lbs lol i know cuz i had mine out to remove my water soaked carpet

 

The purpose of the cover is to provide for covered storage after removal of the back seat ... I just haven't gotten around to it yet. the cover only weighs about 5 pounds.

 

I could make the same thing cheaper but its a good find for someone who doesnt want to make their own. Nice site tho.

 

true, the rear seats themselves dont weigh much, but when you add up the weight of the seatbelt aparatis it is increased quite a bit. i tried to make my own a while back, the problem i kept running into is how to anchor them to the floor... i mean God forbid i ever hit anything i dont nead the box coming up and smashing me in the back of my head.

 

I would think they could use the female part connector of the seatbelts as a mounting point to mount the box? That would be a good idea to me.

I would easily guess 40 pounds for the seats/seatbelts...

I removed my rear seats just because i didnt use them nor want to use them. Id rather not have back passengers...they have **** for room anyway. Its just one of those things i dont use it i want it out, i like clean and simple. The less weight is an added bonus for me. Sports cars dont need back seats...I like those boxes, i will add those to my to do list for the car...heh

 

my seat belts weight maybe like 10 lbs together... i'd say everything could weigh no more than like 20lbs

 

you could be right i never actually weighed the parts, it is started in many places that the seats weight 45 lbs, i do think that is a bit high...

 

IMO the way it was done above looks best. Im thinking about making one too, when i decide on an interior color. I plan on doing it the same way. I want to either hinge the whole top, or put in a smaller hinged door or doors for access to storage. You can bolt it in using the lower seat bolts. And if you are still worried about it coming forward, you can use some strapping matterial and bolt it to the rear seat belt bolts in the middle...asmentioned already.

Yeah you can fold the rear seat down...but then if you put stuff back there, like i do, it rolls around and gets lost down in the crevices and it just doesnt look clean. I think the box idea really cleans things up a ton.

If you wanted, you could attach a cargo net to the top of the box. Like the one found in Grand Cherokees. Then if you have things like CD cases, or if you take your wallet out when you sit like me, you can put them under there adn they dont go slidin all over the place getting lost under the seats etc..

I don't like those boxes, they look like some sound system and just look ugly in my opinion.

 

Well, when I took out the back seat in my car, the total was around 47lbs. I actually set it on a scale, but did not take pics (I know say what you want). The heaviest part of it was the back piece, not the cushions. All together around 47lbs. I can see where there might be descrepencies, due to different designs and all, but in general they are a bit more than 20lbs. I curl 25's every other day, so I know its a bit more than that. (plz. no jokes on that one ).
I am thinking (since I have a vert) to build my box in that well, kinda angled down, subs angled upwards etc. I will draw up a pic and post it here. Then I might take that knight rider/batmoblie idea, for when the top is down, and have that back piece stick out to where its covering that box.

Like I said I will throw in some pics as soon as I get back home tonight.

Being that close to the front seats, I would have to say that the Impact could be deadly.
Never enough booom, IMO!

 

thats what i'd do if i had the money!...hey when you get the plans and measurements for that "box" send it my way please!!!

 

What am going to do is cardboard it first, then cut till I like the cardboard mock up then start cutting wood.
I am also thinking of having the area for the two subs big enough to host two 15's .
