steering column question
steering column question
I just purchased a 91 Z28 that has something that I have never seen before. I have owned many third gens but this has me stumped. On the top of the steering column there is a piece of metal that is about 1/4" wide and about 3" long. I have no idea what it is. If you look at the back of the column next the gauges it looks there is a metal plate in the shape of a half moon. It starts about the center of the column and goes half way around. My column is all metal with no plastic covers. I am hoping that someone can tell me what this is. I have attached a pic. Trying to figure this out is driving me nuts.

Was the car ever stolen to your knowledge? Could be lots of things ranging from a shotty attempt to fix a steering column on a boosted car to some dumbass thought it would look cool... also could be a mount for aftermarket tach?
Is this thing glued on, screwed in, part of the inside of the column? Also, could be added support for column, you know how finnicky these columns get after 100K miles...
