what can we get new from gm still?
just curious as to what people know for a fact we can still purchase from gm?
larger items like interior pieces, etc. not screws. if there is a faq please disregard this if not maybe there should be one that is current and kept up to date. if you know what's available and the part number please list it.

You'd be suprized by how much is discontinued. The only way to know is to call your GM dealer and find out!

okay, just as an example they (as in Chevy Dealer) had get my spark plugs in from the warehouse/special order gotta wait for the truck etc.. And well those fuggers were made in 1995! GM sold the entire warehouse of camaro parts about 3 years ago.. Making it a real bitch to find just about anything. Hit up classic industries, OER is starting to manufacturer stuff..

Oh, it gets better. A little while ago, they discontinued the 1 of the 3 sections of the air dam for my car. So, you could only replace the center and one side! Now the whole thing is discontinued and you need to order from VPI (where GM sold the parts). Unfortunately, only 2 of the 3 are still available.
Our cars aren't old enough to have most of the parts in reproduction. Classic Industries has a nice selection. But, they barely have anything for our cars in comparison with 1st and 2nd gen 'birds.

well it would be nice if we had a list of what was available or a decent way to accurately check. i looked up several parts at the gmdiscount website but it's not that acurate.

Well, I know that leather seat upholstery, front noses, and one part of the 3 piece air dam for a 91 GTA are no longer available.
I know that you can get a power antenna for the car, but it's a generic GM version, and not identical to the one that came in your car.
I think I was also able to get a set of Torx bolts for the door map pocket/cup holder and a driver's side door map pocket/cup holder at the dealership (I know you said no bolts, but I couldn't resist!)
The turn signal lever (with cruise control) is also available from GM.
All this stuff is current as of the summer of 2005.

i don't like buying used parts or new ones off of people because too many people lie about the condition which is why it's nice to know what we can and can not purchase new from gm.

Even if a part is discontinued, they may still be laying around different dealerships gathering dust....I bought out a whole lot of Dodge parts, when the local dealer went out of bussiness, including alot of service manual...GM can call around and find stuff (If the parts guy is nice) BTW, there are resale companys that buy up alot of parts to turn a profit on.Tom
