Re-Spray Plastic

Right now my interior is a grey color, but i'm planing on getting black sun visors, headliners, and sail panels, but all the plastic will still be grey, what spray paint should i use, and would it come out looking good, anyone have pics of their jobs?

Interior fabric and vinyl dye- flat black in color.
I think its made by duplicolor, and you can get it @ Wallyworld.
Ive never used it for an area that big, but on the small pieces Ive used it on, it looks stock, and lasts forever.
Id be really wary about using it on parts that get a lot of traffic on them- door sill plates, for example. I think that It'd come off of those pieces really quick, and look terrible. Just my .02......

I just did mine this past weekend. I did all plastic in car including sill plates, I changed color totally. I tested the first panel for adhesion by lightly slapping panel with 120 grit sand paper. My color did not scratch down to the old color even though you could tell where I hit the plastic harder than in other areas. I recomend a different material and process than that described in the previous posts.

remove panels to be painted from car
wash thoughouly with ppg wax and grease remover surfaces to be coated
A.) wipe plastic dry while still wet with solvent
B.) repeat at least 3 times let dry 20 min.
hang panels by wire
lightly spray surfaces to be coated with clear adheasion promoter
let dry 20 min & re-spay
let dry another 20 min
top coat with SEM plastic dye two coats 5 min apart.

god speed

if your gonna paint plastic with paint you need to use an adhesion primer, even if you sand the part, the paint wont stick well unless its got the adhesion primer on...you can get it the same place you get cans of spray paint. you dont need the primer if you do the dye tho.

If you guys did some searches and research you would know that what you do is what you get. IMHO painting plastics is worthless unless you have a show car that never gets any traffic. By traffic I mean you getting in and out of the car on a regular basis, if you want black, gray, red then buy the right panels unless your so poor rattle can painting is your only alternative.

"Krylon Fushion" works quite well and I drive me car everyday. So far so good.

I suppose if you took a nail and scraped it the original color would show through. But if you scraped unpainted plastic with a nail it wouldn't look any better.

like iron duke said if you have the cash then buy replacement parts. If you just dont know where to gwet them he sells them or search the classifieds on this site. If you just dont have the cash but want the color change then use the use the dye. they sell it at wal-mart, pepboys, autozone. paint WILL chip if you hit it. try it on anything you own. The dye however is said to actually penetrate the item and dye the pigments in the item. i dont know how well it works im just saving up money to get the rigth stuff from duke but I'd dye it for now f you cant wait and then get the real oem parts later.

The Fusion Paint won't chip. I've tested some scrap pieces with a chisel and it make a gouge mark but it did not chip.

yes the fusion is a pretty tough paint, ive used it to paint r/c boats, repair interior plastic, never any problems, but i do use an adhesion primer first.
