Interior Neons (Dome Light Tapping)

I had a question, wondering if anyone knows. I was looking to tap into my dome lights to have neons come on when the dome does, I noticed next to the actual bulb theres a screw coming out of the light, Is this giving off a power source to tap into, Anyone know? Thanks so much

Hit it with a DMM and see what it says. Dont now what screw you are talking about, but thats about the best way to find if something is hot or not.

I'm not an expert at this but I have tapped into the door pins before with good results. You might also want to look into the headlight switch as a source of power for your neons. That screw you mentioned in your post is not a hot, it is only a rivet that holds the dome light to the roof, IIRC

I had a question, I was lookin today and I think I found the wires to dome light. I found a plug-in double wire running to the dome light, It was whitish grey. Does anyone know if this is it? Im hooking up neons, Will they run off this switch? Should I hook a fuse in between? Thanks so much

that screw you are referring to holds the dome light assembly into the roof. No power supply there. There is a 12v power source that runs up the drivers a-pillar, over to the center above the visors, and to the domelight. The door switch is on the ground (negative) side of the dome light circuit. I'd suggest starting a new 12v power supply from the fuse box for your new lights and run your negative wire through the door switches (behind your kick panel) so they turn on and off with the doors if that's what you want. You'll probably want the option of switching them on with the doors closed too though. you can run a branch off the negative side that goes to a switch before a ground. It's much easier to see than read. I'll try to draw it up quickly:

thinking about it some more, I wonder if you'd be best off to just run the neons off of a manual switch. I believe they run off a ballast that may not like being turned on and off frequently.

Thanks so much for your info. Yes I am planning on running this to a switch. I was thinking, I think I found the wire under the dash to the left running to the dome light, It's a white wire. My idea, tell me if this sounds right or wrong. Ok from the neons I wanted to strip that wire and run the positive wire of the neons to that, Take the negatives, run them to a switch, and then other to a ground. Pretty much exactly what you said So will like any screw in the floor or something work as a ground? so much
