I want to install a complete 86 TA instrument cluster (140mph speedo) into my 85 TA (80mph speedo). Both have mechanical speedo cables.
Will the Speedo be pinned at 140 mph when going 80 mph ? My Buddy told me I need to change the governor gear in the tranny end of the cabe also to have the correct speedo reading. Is this true ?

Should read fine if its acurate now. The gear on the cable is to match the rear end gear. Shouldnt have to change anything.

They have 86 trans am clusters with mechanical speedos? wow...i cant find one for the life of me. All the ones I see are electronic...

 

Yea, I thought they all went electric in 86. Who knew.

 

lol yeah, my 86 with dummy lights is mechanical.
