seat re-covering plans?
has anyone recovered there seats? possibly GTA seats (with lumbar support) and kept the plans/instructions?
I want to custom do mine, and the plans for an aftermarket seat re-covering set would help a great deal...

i didnt recover these myself, i bought them this way, they look great, but the pics look a little green, they are the seats you are looking for lumbar and sidebolsters.

i recovered my GTA-style seats with ultra-leather from hawks, black with black-vented inserts. they came with detailed instructions and all the hog-rings that you need to redo your sets. i believe it was about $500 out of my pocket.

I've been considering recovering my seats with a kit from Hawks or one of the vendors you see on ebay. These kits are typically kinda expensive though and around 500 bucks to start. I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of that amount again if you get an upholsterer to do it. What's the best plan when it comes to redoing your seats?
<86TA> - those seats look awesome.

I recovered mine last year, I got the material from hawks and it fit great. I had to send the front seats in to a pro to get them done right since my foam was a little flat. I did away with the louvered bolsters for the smooth leather appereance.

I am getting mine redone as i speak. I took mine in to a pro though. I am doing tan inside of black. I guess i did not realize you could get them threw hawks with different colors. Oh well, I am paying 8-900 for all of the seats redone.

Not trying to thrash Hawks but you guy's need to look Classic Industries. I can get a complet kit (thats front and back) $300 something give or take a few dollars. If I deside to stay with them. Mine has camaro in the lower back support. The tech at CI said thers did not. But I'm thinking of 4th gen seats.
I got the tan hampton vinyl for the GTA style seats and hawks were cheaper, plus they pay for advertising on this site to help keep it running, thats why I went with hawks.

PLANS!!!
DID ANYONE KEEP THE PLANS and/or INSTRUCTIONS!!!
THAT IS WHAT I NEED, THAT IS WHY I STARTED THIS THREAD.
I APPRECIATE THE INPUT ON WHERE YOU GOT YOUR KITS FROM, AND WHOSE WORKED BETTER, BUT I NEED YOUR PLANS THAT CAME WITH THE KIT!!!
PLEASE!

pm me if you have them, or post them here please.

Why stay with Your old seats. I picked up a set of leather (high qaulity leather) seats on e bay. More comfortable then the original seats. I think I ended up paying 250.00. NOw I just need to figure out what to do with back seat.

Back on topic for benjy...
(Some video clue of your original seats would be useful.)
That being said, doing your own upholstery is not for
the faint of heart. Trying to use a garment weight
machine for vinyl and upholstery weight thread was
a waste of time. Minimum necessary is a "moving foot"
class machine. I found a used one for $400, which I
could justify because of several projects (boat, and
2 vehicles). The alternative is hand sewing, if you
can devote about 50 hr's per seat.
I don't know the details of 84camaross's project, but he's
spot on about carefully taking apart the old covers for
patterns. Find a good commercial upholstery supply shop
for material, thread, beading etc.
The range of opinion on foam repair is pretty wide. I chose
to get whole new "buns" from Classic. The down side is that
specific buns are not available for every possible seat, and
may need some modification to fit your frames.
If you choose to repair your own, get the highest density
material avialable -- but be prepared for the price.
Good luck.

thanks for the help
ok everyone thanks for all the help.
i think that im just going to get the "covers" from hawks, but im still undecided. i really wanted to have the black inside the grey, but i may have to sacrafice that cause of ability and $$ =[
just one more question, i have some foam damage, so what is recomended in going about that??? its the lumbar and "butt" part of the driver seat, and the "butt" part, and "thigh" part of the passenger seat... I dont really mind buying the whole seat at a set if i have to, cause im sure it could use it, but just the sections would be much more cost efficient, cause i am on a very strict budget.
thanks for all the help!

for a nice amount of coin you can get some great looking top of the line seats from katzin. i priced it out and they were somewhere around 1000 but id double check that. go to google and search katzin. on there site click shop and it'll lead you through the steps to chose what you want and at the end it'll give you the price quote. If you have a mechanic or a body shop that you've been going to for years ask the owner who he would refer and chances are he'll call in if your a good customer and tell the guy to take some money off. thats what my painter is doing for me when i redo mine in a few months.

im lookin into getting it done at a local upholserly shop before i spend the money on the covers from hawks...
i have some money saved up now, but the less i spend now, the more i have for paint later, so im on a pretty strict budget =[

PLAN
Ok, ive been talkin to a guy that im going to meet up with tomorrow...
He has a 2000 V6 5spd Camaro that has been recked, the seats are still in excellent shape, but theres a random fact that i can quite figure out how it came about.
The seats are dark grey (leather), but they have the 30th anneversery (spl?) logo on them

RANDOM???
Oh well, im going to go check them out tomorrow, from what ive heard (from SEVERAL places) the 4th gen seats bolt right into 3rd gen cars.
But theres one more issue, these new seats have a solid rear in the back, and mine is a split rear... Is this going to cause problems??
THANKS!
