Gauges

I just picked up a 89 IROC. One of the problems is the Speedo and Tach do not work. I plan on just trashing the factory gauges and installing some from the aftermarket. The Speedo is mechanical.

Can I just swap out to an electric speedo sending unit and get an aftermarket electric Speedo?

I plan on using the factory bezel and keep the Tach, speedo, Oil, Gas, and temp on the dash. I'll get a single A pillar gauge pod for the Volts.

Thanks a lot. Btw, There's nothing wrong with the cable but I'd rather it be electric.

I meant to put this in electronics. Can an admin move it for me? Thanks

Re: Gauges

Where in NC are you?????

...but anyhow, um, pretty sure you just run the cable into a signal converter from Autometer, or whatever brand you buy. I'm sure you could swap to an electronic sender, right at the trans too, but I'm not sure exactly how to do it.

Re: Gauges

I live in Mount Olive, NC. It's about 10 miles south of Goldsboro.

I had an 86 2.8 5 speed Camaro, the tranny went out so I got one out of a 91. I just swapped out the speedo sending unit with mine from the broken tranny. Just wondering if it worked the same with the autos. Thanks
