Steering Column Issue
OK i got a steering column for my car cause my old one self distructed. I intsllaed it. everything works mint. but i cannot get the intermiated shaft to slide ontot he bottom of the column in the engine bay. I dont know what year the column is out of. is there a difference in these intermediate shafts that would cause this no to work. the car is an 88 Formula. i dont knwo what the column is out of. The only thing i can think of is maybe its just a wicked tight fit caus ei dit have to beat the intermediate shaft off with a prybar and a hammer when i took the old column out of the car.
So far i tried puttin it on both ways to see if maybe i was just dumb and were trying to put it on upside down. it feels like there is one side that is curved and one side is flat on the part that is attached to the column. the part on the intermediate shaft seems to be curved on both side of the inside.
Is there a difference between the different years of the columns and intermediate shaft?

Re: Steering Column Issue
something's not right because you shouldn't have to hit anything to take the column out. at least not in my experiences.
EDIT: although when i pulled the column out there was no engine or drivetrain in the car, but that shouldn't really make a difference.

Re: Steering Column Issue
it will only fir in one way and there is a piece of metal on the shaft that looks like a leaf spring to keep it from sliding out when it shouldnt. it was hard for me to get it out the first time but i think the leaf spring piece has worn down enough it got easier. i dont think there is a difference, try taking the column out and putting just the intermediate shaft in, just to test fit. or you can always piece the new one and old one together

Re: Steering Column Issue
well after filing the edges of the column down and using a bit of coercion i go the intermediate shaft on. thanks guys. i guess it just needed the nice soft touch of a pry bar and dead blow ball peen hammer.
