Sun Visors

Hey,
I bought a new headliner and it came with sun visors. The problem is the visors wont stay up. During driving they just fall down. Ive tryed little velcro strips but they wont stick. Any ideas?

You have one of two problems (or possibly both)
A-Your plastic bushings are worn (these are found inside the visor where they slide over the metal rod.)
B-The metal rod where the visors slide over just spin.
Best bet is to go to the JY and take a few sets or buy a set if you don't have access to a JY.

-Do the metal rods turn? (they should be stiff) You can make them stiff w/JB Weld. (just take it apart and it will be obvious what to do)
-f your plastic inserts (in the visor) are worn, you can try (gently) to squeeze them w/a vise grip.
-Or you can tighten the hell out of those bolts!!! (thats what I did)

Re: Sun Visors

I'm having the same issue, but with my original sun visor. I bought an aftermarket one from Classic Industries, but for some reason my metal rod will not fit into the sun visor. I just went and bought the metal rod support at my local gm dealer (not discontinued...yet), because mine is rotating pretty easily. I'm hoping that with a new support I can continue to use my original sun visor and I'll send back these aftermarket ones.

I have the same problem with my new visors (that came with the headliner set). The driver's side will not slide onto the rod far enough to let the screw fit into the 'key' on the rod. Also, trying to further push the visor onto the rod, the edge of the visor hits on the t-top molding, so it is unlikely that I'll get it to fit on. Kind of disappointed about that.

Re: Sun Visors

If you dont want to fix it the way everyone suggested, which are good permanent fixes, and you just want them to stay for a night, just use a safety pin or something. Otherwise...you gotta do it the right way.

My metal rods were spinning, and the method I chose was to drill a hole straight through the body of the visor bracket and the rod, and use a roll pin. Problem sovled.

If your visor is just spinning on the rod, you can put a piece of elec. tape around the rod to increase the clamping potention of the visor clamp...

You havent mentioned what exactly is letting go on your visor tho...(spinning rod, loose clamp, etc)

All of the fixes listed can be performed in a couple of hours time...plenty of time before prom....
