Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

cool stuff, ive debated it but i kinda like our 90-92 dashes. I hate our center console though. Are you also going to be adding a 4th gen console?]

Are you keeping AC / Heat on your car?

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

Wonder if it's lighter that the stock dash...
I'd love to have one of those just attached to look pretty and hold gauges. I won't need heat after too long.

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

Just a tip on the paint for the interior: I'm using Krylon Plastic Fusion satin black spray paint on mine. I'm only putting on one coat, just enough to turn the parts black so too much doesn't build up. I really like the satin black and not the gloss black. The satin black is a little glossy but it looks awesome. Not even sanding the parts either, just cleaning them off with dish soap. The paint will stick to polished plastic in temperatures around 40 degrees, good stuff.

I like our dashes if you keep it all stock, but with the 4th gen seats and the 4th gen console it just didnt look right to me, and also I couldnt find a firbird radio pod for a good price. So I desided to do the dash as well, and I did the 4th gen seat belts front and rear also. All my 4th gen stuff installed in my car will keep every one guessing...... lt1/t56, 4th gen interior, 98 brakes. I;m going to have all the bonuses of the 4th gen wit hte 3rd gen looks..... WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That is my goal anyway

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

Great Work! But like Stevo said before I'd never swap my original 91 dash out! I like the cool clean look of the original dash! Fits perfectly to the design of the rest of the car!

but this looks great too I must admit!

i'm doing the same exact thing, well with a 4l60e. are you using the third gen wiring, or bringing over the 4th gen harness. I'm thinking about using the 4th gen harness as I have the whole car sitting in the driveway

when I did the lt1 I used the 4th gen tied into the 3rd gen, the dash I tied the 4th to the 3rd..... didnt want to mess with wiring the whole thing.

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

On the vent or ductwork, I'm thinking about using an aluminum mesh screen and then glueing foam to that screen to seal the vents better or route the air better. You can get aluminum door screen or window screen from anywhere(walmart, ace hardware, menards, etc.) for about $5 a roll which is plenty. I got the 1/2" foam from an upholstery shop.

Good luck, the dash is looking good so far.

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

My son and I are doing a 95 dash into his 89 Camaro.

How close are your armrests to the sides of the dash?
Did you make up anything to fill the gap between the left most top screw and the firewall or just force it to fit?
Have you hooked up all the heater controls?

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

Will a 4th gen t-56 console work with the 3rd gen dash? Or will the top of the 4th gen and the radio area on the 3rd gen not align correctly, have a gap, or just not fit?

it will work from what I have seen, just have to get a firebird radio pod for the radio

I used a spacer for the gap. and for the arm rests they are close but ok. enough room to close the door

nice work......

When we parted a 95 TA, its unbelievable the amount of wiring thats in that interior. I don't think i would have the patience to go through that ....

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

how did it go as far as bolting it in and fit did you have to change out the brackets or make new ones. along time ago i put a 92z in an 85z and had to cut out the spot welds and it was a bit of a pain making sure it lined up properly and now i want to do it to my 91z keep the pics coming

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

the wires isn't to bad, but it does take time., the dash pretty much bolted in, with a little mod, had to cut out the old side brackets, and make a new one for the drivers side. but other then that

i hope you are doing the 4th gen door panels as well...? i dont hink it would look "right" without them.

Do you have a nice clear pic of the mod you made to the drivers side? I think we need to get ours back in further, it's still about an inch from the firewall mount point. Before the harness went up behind the dash it was closer. I don't think we can get the drivers door pull to clear the dash yet. Did you route the harness up over the steering column?

I have all the wiring pretty much done and functional. We didn't swap the drivetrain so I made an adapter for the speedo signals.

Any pics anywhere of putting the 4th gen door panels on? I have a set here but figured they wouldn't fit because they have an indent in them where they would need to drop inside the door itself.

actually I do not plan on doing the door panels. They don't fit well even after all the mods you have to do to the door. but will have to see later. what is your car doing???? I will try to help ya out if I can

my harness is over the dash, and I pretty much cut off all the old brackets from the firewall on the drivers side...

id research the door panels a little more i remember when i was planning on doing this swap i got some good information on the door panel area and there are several people that have done it and it looks 20x better with the newer style door panels on there.

and check out the transmission and drivetrain board, i posted up what was wrong with my car and didnt get much of a response check it out maybe you might know more about it than i do b/c im stumped.

Yeah those door panels are fun to get fitted right. They're a little tight and the bottom is about an inch short but they make everything look more modern. I didnt do the dash, but just the doors make a huge difference.
Your dash is looking great so far though

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

Man that dash and console looks great. I just bought an 89 IROC, and the interior is a mess. I really like that change over. How did all the wiring crossover? Was it pretty simple or real headache? I really like the way the graphite color interior looks too. Good job!!!

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

WOW. I love it! What did you do about cruise control? Just bring all the 4th gen stuff over? If anyone on here would like to be paid to do an interior swap for me I could be very generous. I want to get my engine and paint done before the interior, but man I hate wiring. If anyone is short on cash when the time comes, I would be willing to pay 500 plus parts. If that's not fair we can work something out. PM me if interested. - Nate

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

I never hooked you the cruise, with my lt1 swap. I don't do highway driving anymore with this car so it isnt that big of an issue. I am also thinking about taking out the heater stuff also. not sure as of yet though

Looks great, sean. I've been working on the same project for awhile. What did you do to fill the gaps on the sides?

Re: I started my 4th gen dash swap

i want to do a swap also. from the pic it looks like there is some sort of gap between the top part of the dash to where it meets the windshield. Is there a pic missing or is this the way it looks. Does anyone have a more clearer pic of it.
