92 camaro gauges
Hello. I've been a long time lurker and am now a new member here. I've got a 92 RS with the 110mph cluster and just recently bought a 145mph cluster from a 92 Z28 off eBay.
I've searched and searched and just can't find the answers I'm really looking for.
Here's my Q's:
1) My ODO is around 144000 and this new ODO is around 85000. I want to swap them. Since I have the electric speedo, I can't just pull this mess off the back, I have to get it from the front. It seems that the only way to get to it is to pull the needle off. Is this correct?
2) Along with probably having to pull the speedo needle off, I want to pull all the needles and swap them as well because my original cluster has nice, orange needles and this new cluster has faded, yellowy to light orangey needles. What all is entailed in a complete cluster needle swaping?
//EDIT: Another Question
3) I just put it in to test to see if all the gauges work properly and now my airbag light wont turn off. What's the deal there?
//END EDIT
Thanks for any help,
Mark

2) - not sure of the "correct" way, but I have seen it that you put the car on, note the position of the needles, then reinstall the others ones in the same position. Basically they just pop off by gently prying on them with 2 small screwdrivers or someone even mentioned a fork

If you want the right milage showing you need to take apart the cluster. You cannot just move the dials like you can on the trip odometer or like on the 82-89 clusters; trust me, I found out the hard way.
Here's what you have to do: take the speedometer out of the cluster, pop off the needle, peel up the bottom left side of the gauge face until you can get to the two screws that hold the odometer assembly on (DO NOT pull the gauge face completely off or your speedo will probably never be accurate again), then do the same with your original cluster and put your original odometer assembly in the 145mph speedo, and then put everything back together except the speedo needle. Now to get the speedo needle right again is the fun part. If I remember right what I had to do was put the car in drive and idle down the street (without giving it any gas or hitting the brake) and sticking the needle on pointing at 5 mph. I tried putting it back on with the car running but in park and it would not work right.
Another thing you should check is your RPM gauge. It may be different for you but because I have a V6 I needed to take the chip for the RPM gauge from my stock cluster and put it in the 145 cluster and then the RPM guage was correct.
Hope this helps.

Re: 92 camaro gauges
Well, my solution to putting the needle back on might not be right. I checked it with my GPS yesterday and it looks like the speedo is about 5mph ahead. I want to check it again at some lower speeds before I take the dash apart to pull the needle and try again.
EDIT: It looks like the speedo is correct up to around 40-45mph and then it gets 5mph ahead. I don't think it gets more off the faster you go because when I was on the highway yesterday I had the needle to 80mph and the GPS was reading around 75mph.
