86 Firebird Shift knob removal

Car: 1986 Firebird LG4
Engine: 305 5.0 LG4
Transmission: TH-700R4
Axle/Gears: 2.73
86 Firebird Shift **** removal
I have searched this site on how to do this but i can only find it for camaros and i dunno if its different at all.
So basicly the leather on my automatic shift **** has a nice hole in it that seemed to come out of no where
So 2 things...how do i get this old one off so i can put a different one on...and where can i buy an OEM replacement or a direct fit aftermarket one.

X2. Also alot of floorshift GM models attach the same way. A GrandPrix is a polular one, S-sereis, J-bodies, Fieros, Some Olds, Etc

Put the shift lever in 1st gear and you'll be able to look over the top of it to see the slot where the U-shaped clip is licated. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to get the clip out. Once the clip is out the **** slides right off the lever.

Just one more dumb question...is there any specific way to put the clip back in. So i dont damage it

Also if you lose it, you can make another one out of a paperclip.
