I'm looking for a carpet kit that comes closest to to original carpets as possible. So who sells the most accurate one?

These guys make exact fit carpets in original colors. I have used them several times and been VERY pleased.

 

Did they have the heel and toe pads ... what about the underpadding? was the carpet dyed to original colors? how was the fitment? any problems at all?

 

Im kinda wondering the same thing because my camaro has some kinda jacked up carpet, i just want the best fitment and with as little cutting as possible.

 

Do our cars have the cutpile material? Which color matches the best with the medium gray from the 91s?

 

that adn what about longevity? Will they last or will they fade??? Especially for lighter colors like th grays and the darker colors like the blacks.

 

I am only interested in Camel color .... I'de like to see detailed pictures of your carpet kits prior to the seats going in. I am also interested in high quality interior plastic carpeting for the trunk as well as the kick panels.

 

carpet kits I have installed kits in many cars from vettes to full size trucks even big vans and kits never i mean never come all that close . take your time, they come in many colors so iit is up to u which color matches. yes they all fade if cleaned with heavy chemicals. yes there is a lot of cutting, be careful and cut less. once u cut to much thats it. use the old carpet as guide of course and use real glue not the can crap glue but glue from a trim shop most times they will sell u a quart if u ask, u can by more of the jute which is the material under most carpets for extra pad if needed. u might be able to use old pad but it most likely has 20yrs of stink. hope this helps

I just started looking for carpet, too. My first filter is to use only product from companies that currently supply the OE (original equipment) auto industry. That helps ensure higher quality, good fit, and possibility of OE materials. Once I get that list I hope to find the company the has the original molds for our cars.

So far I've learned that Dalton, GA is the domestic carpet capital. One of the giants in the industry was E.T. Barwick Mills and they used to be a prime supplier of carpets to General Motors and Chrysler. It just so happens that their automotive production plant was purchased in the mid-'80s by Auto Custom Carpets (ACC). I'm trying to figure out if E.T. Barwick Mills used to make 3rd gen F-body carpets, and if so did ACC purchase the molds? If this is true then it might be that ACC is the best source of replacement carpets for our cars.

Another company in Dalton, GA is ACS/Dorsett. Their parent company, Dorsett appears to be a current OE supplier to the auto industry. I'm guessing that ACS handles the aftermarket. That's a good indicator of high quality products but the question is, how good are their molds?

I'll post as I learn more.

 

Okay, this didn't take long at all to figure out...

As far as I can tell ACC (Auto Custom Carpets) is the largest aftermarket manufacturer and their products are sold everywhere. But if you look over these boards there are many many reports of colors changing or fading. I even know somebody myself that installed a black ACC carpet one year ago and it is turning green. I don't know if it is a problem with some color sets or just all around. But I'm not willing to find out with my own money.

ACS/Dorsett seems to have a very good reputation. Not surprising to me since Dorsett is an OE supplier. Jim85IROC also sells carpets with a very good reputation. After comparing his products to the ACS/Dorsett website I'm 99.999% confident that he sells the ACS/Dorsett carpets.

This is a done deal for me. Two sources of carpet with great reputations - and they happen to be from the same source. I'm getting an ACS/Dorsett carpet.

 

That fading green is whats happening to my carpet installed by my upholstery guy. So this problem isn't limited to black or grey's ... I think it's just cheap carpet. Yesterday I oredered a carpet kit for my 97 camaro so we'll see how that is. I remember my original carpet nevcer changed to a greenish tint.
