Need cool gauge cluster ideas

The Tach in my 91 RS is dead. I would like to upgrade the whole panel anyway. I would like something with a more updated look, like glowing gauge faces or at least some colored LEDs. And definately a speedo that goes past 110!

As much as I love doing my own work, I'm an ametuer. My time is also limited as Uncle Sam keeps me busy vacationing in exotic places like Afghanistan, where i am currently sitting. So I don't have time or know how to Fab anything, and will probably pay someone to install it. I would really like to find the whole module with all the gauges, but nicer than the OEM ones. Haven't had any luck finding one though. Can anybody point me in the right direction? If I can't get an entire aftermarket module, any other suggestions to dress things up?

at the momentThere isn;t anything that replaces the stock gauge panels n 90 and up. I don;t knw about anyone else but I'm working on making a panel what will be able to fit aftermarkets in the cluster. it will be made from aluminum and I'll be having a company doing the cutting and machining. may not be done for a while as i'm planning it out tho. but it will be setup to use what gauges you want.

Mine is an 87, but you could do basically the same thing for yours, I got reverse glow gauges and it really modernized things for me and made it a hell of a lot brighter at night, it wasnt to hard to do myself either and I was pretty new at that kind of stuff, this is what they look like and i know they make similar ones for your yearuless yours are already the same style as mine??? Well heres some pics

Camaropunk, those gauges look awesome and the night look is exactly what I had in mind. Where did you get them and about how much did the whole gauge setup cost, if you don't mind me asking. Did you have to fab the plate to mount them in? I actually can't remember if my gauges are layed out like yours, and since the car is 10,000 miles from me I can't go look at it.

Re: Need cool gauge cluster ideas

So I started google searching for reverse glow gauges and I see a bunch for IROC/Z28 models not for my RS. My tach is dead anyway and needs replaced. Anybody know if I can swap a Z28 gauge pod into the RS? If that is doable it should give me a working tach, a speedometer that reads higher, and then I can add the Z-28 reverse glow gauges.

Re: Need cool gauge cluster ideas

Consider building your own custom cluster using a donar (junk yard) 90-92 cluster. Choose the gauges you like, digital or sweep, cut a face mounting plate, splice as needed.

RSDROPTOP ,FIRST THX FOR PUTTIN YOUR A** ON THE LINE SERVING OUR COUNRTY BEING AN ARMY BRAT I CAN APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT. YOUR 91 GAUGES ARE MOST LIKELY LIKE MY 92 AND NOT THE ROUND KIND BUT YOU CAN HAVE A SHOP FAB OUT OF ALUMINUM A FLAT PIECE THAT GOES INTO THE SPACE FOR THE OLD POD AND HAVE INSTALLED ANY GAUGES THAT U LIKE WHILE USING THE OLD HOLES

If they are both V8 cars then yes. If your RS is a V6 you need a V6 cluster. There are quite a few on ebay. The V6 tachs redline at 6000 and the V8 at 5500 as far as I can tell.

Re: Need cool gauge cluster ideas

Its a V8 (305 TBI). Sounds like a plan. Which brings up another question. I plan on swappinng in an LS1/T56. Anybody know what I have to do to make the tach and speedometer work? I've seen references to some kind of converter.
