Gas Guage

Im having a problem with my gas guage. It stays all the way to the right past the full line, but then when the tank starts getting low it goes back and forth all the way to either side of the F and E. i pulled the dash out hoping that it was just a bad contact or something. i put everything back in and still, the same problem. I did read somewhere that it might be the fuel pump or something. is it a major job to replace that?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Gas Guage

It may be the sending unit. My gas gauge doesn't work either because of the sending unit. I was going to replace it and then found out what needs to be done. Lets just say step 1 was drop the rear axle O_O. In order to get to the fuel tank, you need to drop the rear axle, remove the muffler, and remove the heat shield. Its a lot of work. I decided to wait on replacing mine until I put dual exhaust in since I have to drop the rear axle to put the new exhaust pipes in anyways : /
