Re: removing the center console/shift ****
When I removed the shift **** off my 92 there was a clip in the front of the **** about halfway down that you just pulled out and the **** slides right off. It may be different on your 85 though, not sure.

Re: removing the center console/shift ****
My 87 Camaro also just had a little clip in the front of the shift *** that I just popped out with a screw driver. I had to take out my cd player and heater/AC control unit to get the upper console out on mine. The console is different in a Camaro though, so I am not sure on anything. Have a look at the pieces around your cd player for any screws.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it looks like the same kind of clip that was on my ****. It was kind of tough to get out, but I just kept prying it out with a screwdriver and it eventually came out, then just slip the **** off.

if i remember right there's a screw either under the ash tray, or you have to pop the shifter plate off and it's under there by the ash tray. Been awhile since I parted out a Firebird.

im pretty sure i got the two in the ash tray because theres two holes where screws should be...must have not put them back the previous time...but it seems like its stuck where the e break is.

Re: removing the center console/shift ****
did you take the ebrake handle off? thats the only thing i can think of that would hold it on there. make sure you got all of them, including the two at the back of the console. in the inner compartment.

Re: removing the center console/shift ****
I'm not sure if you caught it, but you have to remove the shifter plate to access the final screw. Then pull up the e-brake, and pull the whole console up...
