no its not threaded . pull **** all the way out , look at shaft that goes into **** . on flatside of shaft you will see a small metal tang . take a small knife blade pry the tang away from the shaft and **** slides right off . to re-install just push **** back on .

Re: Headlight switch busted need help!

forgot to mention . i tried to remove my switch [the plastic nut/threaded shaft broke ] things were so close behind the dash i could not unplug switch . switch still worked , so i ended up putting a small scrap of plywood weged behind switch to hold it in place . telling myself i would do a proper fix later . that was almost 3 years ago . oh well , time for a cool one .

read my first post again , flat side of shaft there is a small metal tang on the back of the **** , you may need to rotate **** to see the metal tang , with a small knife blade , place edge of blade on flat of shaft , move edge of blade under metal tang , turn knife blade to lift up on tang , **** will come right off with just a small pull while you are holding tang up .

On my 88 Camaro, there was a small button under the dash, I believe under where the headlight switch was, push that and pull the **** out.

And I thought "TANG" was a powdered orange drink

The process is fairly simple, you can access the dimmer switch from either under the dash pad or from under the dash. IIRC I had to remove the speaker, or the duct, or something to get the switch out. First off all pull the **** out untill it wont go anymore, reach behind the actual dimmer switch and there is a small metal nipple on the back of the switch. You have to push the nipple in to release the **** and shaft. Once the **** and shaft are out unscrew the plastic piece located infront of the dash, where the **** and shaft slid in. Once you have these parts out unplug the wiring harness from the switch and jiggle it out, have fun it a PITA sometimes.
