Call me crazy but just and idea
so i've got a 89 iroc AUTO. as swweet as a stick would be to swap in there, i was playing with the idea, or wanted to look into how ridiculous it sounded. anyway here goes... my other car is a 79 olds cutlass i got from my grandma, i put buckets out of an integra instead of the bench and i really liked it because it made the inside feel alot more open and spacious. i don't know what anybody else thinks but i iroc interiors are rather confining and all the sharp angles in its design look pretty unforgiving in a crash. anyway i wanted to take out the center console all together and put the shifter on the column and the e-brake on the floor, then putting all the switches, stereo and heater controls in the dash itself. fill in the cut out from the console. im not a huge fan of the center "bin" style glove compartment to begin with, plus im sure it would make the inside feel alot more spacious. im all about the comforts in the car, i suppose the olds got me a little spoiled with roominess, but with the auto in the car i was thinking that with a weekend of swapping out some column parts and shift linkage i could pull it off in a camaro. let me know what you guys and gals think, good idea or bad or impossible. let me know

it can be done, but it would be alot of work (don't forget the carpet has to be replaced) you could always use an aftermarket shifter on the floor, also don't forget about where you put your arm when you drive, in my '69 I had buckets with no console, and wasn't comfortable driving for long since I had no place to rest my arm. You could swap in a different console also if you want to get away from the blockiness

You could do this, but like the previous reply said you would have to replace the carpet, and you would have to hack alot of extra stuff (center console brackets, air ducts, etc.) And I wouldn't use a column shifter, maybe a manual stick with a boot? The column shifters just scream "soccer mom"

Gotta give you the
on this one man. I don't know if you'e ever actually removed the center console from an IROC before, but the top of the console is about three inches higher than the tranny tunnel.
With the entire console pulled out, and the shifter coming through the floor, you would gain maybe an inch on the side, and three inches on top. Not only that, but you would lose that nice shoulder rest pad on top of the glovebox.
All of this not to mention that with a 700R4 you'd have to go through the pain of having to fabricate, and then adjust a shift cable.
What you really ought to do is swap the engine from the IROC into the Cutlass. Roomy and sleeper.
