i was told that the center console out of a 93-97 firebird would bolt right up to my 87 GTA. Fact or fiction?

The '93-'97 and '98-'02 consoles will fit. If you have an automatic car, it is far easier to install a 6 speed console. Using an automatic console, you will have to do a lot of tweaking.
