carpet suppliers

I am in Australia and am looking for new carpet. I had no trouble when my 84 needed carpet. The supplier here made the carpet and that was good. Now, I have a 91 Trans am and the supplier says that it is an 8 piece set. He says the pieces have to be made separately and molded because of the difference in the floor pans and console. Does that sound legitimate to you guys. thanks.

Re: carpet suppliers

I thought the floor pans on all the 3rd gens were th same, but could be wrong. Maybe he's thinking of the 4th gen?

Re: carpet suppliers

No, he definitly knows the difference. Something about the console. The exterior carpet around the base goes in first then the floors to make it look one piece.

Re: carpet suppliers

A quick check on the hawks link above shows that the carpet kits are broken up by the years this way: 82-84 & 85-92.

It seems to me that the 85-92 is made up of 2 pieces of molded carpet. One for the cargo area and one for the passenger area as you can order these separate. Not 8 different pieces though.

Na, JC Whitney doesn't carry high quality items IMO. Do a search on google for automotive carpet. If I remember correctly, a company named ACC makes quality molded carpet.

I bought carpet from them a couple of years ago, so far no complaints looks good and it fit well, I only had to do minor trimming.

Re: carpet suppliers

Maybe the fit is not good on the later models. Dont know. I dont know why he says he needs to make an 8 piece set when he could do one in two pieces. Anyone have a later model carpet fitted in two pieces? I would like to hear from someone who has a 91-92 Trans am who has replaced his carpet. thanks.
