hey guys i have an 86 iroc and am begining to do some interior work and my carpet on my center console is faded and is red and black....my interior is doeskin and black. i assume the carpet is supose to be black as well but looks like it was red and dyed black. can i re dye the carpet? is there anything like that to use for it? here is a pic......http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x...ikeshow029.jpg thanks everyone

 

That's wild. I'd bet it was black too, or else someone took a red console and dyed it black, and now it's wearing off. I'd take it to a good upholstery shop and have them redo it for you.

 

Looks like it was originally red and someone dyed it black. If your going for original, your interior should have a console with no carpet on it. Only the custom cloth and contuer interiors got the carpet on the console.

 

My 84 came with carpet from the factory on the console.

Right, but the base interiors, like pictured above did not have carpeting on the console. Only the "Custom Cloth" or "Contuer" (CAMARO, CAMARO, CAMARO interior) had the carpeting.

 

Mine must have been a special order then, because mine is as basic as it could be. Crappy vinyl seats, no power accessories of any kind, and no carpet on the back panels.

Just carpet on the center console.

 

Interesting, also could have been added at some point. Or I could just be wrong about the earlier '82-'84 cars.
