What seat belt to use...

I want to get either a 4 point or a 3 point harness for autocrossing next season. I was wondering what would be easier to use in my car (It doesn't have a roll bar or anything). I was thinking I would get a clip in 3 point and clip the lap belt to the two floor spots by the drivers seat and the third clip would go to the back seat retractor mechanism. Then the shoulder straps will go over the back of the seat and under the headrest. Will that work? The site mentions eyelets... would an eyelet work?

Re: What seat belt to use...

I put a pair of those in my car, they will bolt in to the factory seatbelt holes. I ran them up under the headrest. I haven't used them at the autocross yet, but they held me tight in my seat when I went to road atlanta back in may.

Re: What seat belt to use...

have any pics of the install? they will work with stock seats? which belt/ options did you go with? do you guys think the retractor option is a good idea for a daily driver?

I would alos like pics and know what belt/options you have with it. However, using one of these harnesses for daily driver is illegal. These harnesses may be safer but they are not legal DOT seatbelts. If you are using a race harness while your on the road and you get pulled over and the cop sees it... time for a ticket. Thats why I just want something that will be easy in easy out for when I autocross.

Re: What seat belt to use...

For the shoulder belts, I've seen a bar mounted for rear tower to tower, to act as the mount for them. Pretty cool idea. Mounted right at the height of the rear seat, and they are practically invisible, from the front.

Make sense?

Re: What seat belt to use...

I think I know what you mean but would I have to take out the rear plastic peices, or would it just mount where the cargo shade does? If it would mount where the cargo shade does, would it be strong enough?

Re: What seat belt to use...

No luck yet, but I found this that'll help illustrate mounting options. Even using the stock rear seat belts mounting points could be a good choice.

Re: What seat belt to use...

Here's a text version of a Forum Thread, that talks about what I mean....
thread

But if you mount the 2 ends of the bar, to where the rear shoulder belts mount, your basically just as safe, as far as the mounting goes, since your using strengthened factory mounting points.

My car doesn't have rear shoulder belts... just lap belts, so I have no idea what you talking about.

The blue circle is what I was planning on doing in my car. With the bar going across over the rear wheel wells are you reffering to the picture circled in red?

Re: What seat belt to use...

Well, I couldn't find a real pic, so I made one to illustrate it. Red is the bar & tabs, blue are the belts. With earlier models, mounting to the sheet metal, and using mounting plates like a roll cage uses or back plates, would provide strength too.

Obviously for a 4 point, you'd use 2 mount tabs per side.

Re: What seat belt to use...

That red Camaro is EXACTLY what I was referring too.

As far as "track legal", no. It's not going to meet safety standards. But for local autocrosses, then yeah. It PROBABLY will, unless you have some real hard-***.

That's what I plan on building. I don't have rear shoulder belts either, so it would require some extra fab work, since there aren't any shoulder belt mounts.

Re: What seat belt to use...

A complete roll cage is legal in the stock class for autocross. I just dont want to give up the use of my back seats, and I like the stock look.
