Gauges in the console?

Im trying to think of places to put some gauges... dont really like the A-pillar pod look. Just looks kinda tacky.

Was thinking about puttin them in the center console near where the power windows and power lock switches go. All I have is the hatch release there in the center, and by my measurements I could fit two 2-1/16s gauges side by side right there.

But is there anything in the way under there? I've never taken the console apart before so I ahve no idea what's in the way or how hard it would be to run wires there, but I figure it wouldn't be too bad.

The other idea I had was to run 3 gauges across the dash under the heater vents. I've already got an Air/Fuel gauge there but it was installed by hte previous owner and I have no idea whether or not there's enough room there to put 3 more gauges across. I'm thinking they're probably isnt, but I was curious as to what you guys thought.

I think it'd look neat to have my other gauges going towards the passenger side from that one, but Im guessing space is a limiting factor.

i understand where you are coming from thinking that putting guages on the a-pillar look tacky, but when you talk about putting them in the center console I keep thinking " going too fast to take your eyes too far from the road." some people have no problem with that, but i don't like having to take my eyes off of the road to check out my air/fuel ratio or my fuel level etc. you never know what can happen in a split second, it can be something avoided.

Re: Gauges in the console?

I put two here, i absolutely love it. When im driving, its the easiest spot to see, and all i have to do is move my eyes, not my head.

Also if you run them under the heater vent, (my bro's car has this), make a little pod to house them in. All those wires, and the WHITE of the gauges from the back looks hideous.

The other option is the way you have ur AF gauge now. Looks excellent. Ive also seen 3 gauges all the way over at the passenger side, next to the RS symbol.

Good idea! I was wondering, what is that in between the window switches in the center console?

Thats exactly it, its not secured there or anything, just fits there perfectly. My glove box is a mess, so i just put it there for easy access.

Re: Gauges in the console?

Is there room behind the dash where my A/F gauge is for more gauges though?

I was planning on putting a coolant temp gauge and a oil pressure gauge in the console since those are more vital signs type gauges than need to know at all times gauges... but the more I think about it, the better an idea it seems toget the oil pressure into plain view because I can definitely see the point about looking down at it while driving.

Re: Gauges in the console?

do you use your ash tray for anything? if not...this could be a possible option (setup from a long time ago)

Re: Gauges in the console?

There should be room. It only takes a minute to take the dashpad off and then you can look down and see.

My center gauges are mounted in a pod:

Re: Gauges in the console?

I'd puttem right next to or around your A/F gauge so you don't havta look down while driving, there should be enough room back there. Just get the same kinda gauges as the A/F so it doesn't look tacky!
