Has anyone seen this cup holder? After searching and searching here, this looks to be the best, easiest, most convenient option. found it on ebay. What do you guys think?

Re: Cup Holder

I think I'm gonna have to make a purchase in the near future. Wonder why they say it's only for a Porcshe, shouldn't they be considered universal?

Totally looks universal which is why I posted this here. And folds up out of the way. Also looks easy to install and even has 6 holes to bolt in securely. I don't really like the ash tray cup holder option, having liquid so close to my cd player, not to mention that you would have to take your drink out of the way to load a cd. Console swap is way too much trouble to get a cup holder. The sliding cup holder tray option gets in the way of the vents and sits too high anyways, although they are good ideas.

I had a set of them in my 87 Grand Prix. Not the best looking of additions, but they are functional.

where did you mount yours? do you have pictures? I was thinking I would mount one only, on the drivers side, way down to the farthest right hand corner. It would be the least visible.

Re: Cup Holder

No pictures sorry. All I did to fond out where to mount them was I sat in my car, had a can in my hand...and just imagined where it would be comfortable to put it. Stuck it right there. Ended up being right in front of the armrest. In a 3rd gen, that would roughly translate to around where the door lock switch/mirror switch is. That was a Grand Prix though, and I'm not sure if you'd run into problems with the screws hitting internal moving/electrical parts of the door, but my guess is that it'd be fine.

Re: Cup Holder

head down to your local junkyard, i do believe that some mercedez benz have a cupholder similar to that, that u can just screw in and bam you got a cup holder, i forget the model but i know its on a mercedez, just check it out, on the mercedez i think its mounted on the doors or something. the reason i mention it is because i saw it on a cardomain page where someone restored a delorian and didnt want to completely re do the center console so they got cupholders out of an old benz and just screwed them onto the door and the cump holder is similar to the one u showed

Re: Cup Holder

I was looking for cup holders at one point but didnt want to screw through panels.. I've seen that one one on ebay only thing is some of them arent spring loaded.. so you gota flip it down then flip the curved part up and they dont self adjust so you can really only put a water bottle or can in there. I usually get big gulps or fast food drinks and doesnt seem like it would hold up well.
I am getting tired of holding the cup in my lap with one hand then when it condensates well you know...

I like this one...

Re: Cup Holder

It came stock on firebirds lol. Remember, we have the "more luxurious" cars.

Another option, is get these. My uncle used to have a mustang without cup holders, and he would use these to hold his beer:

I tried one of those, but it won't fit on a GTA door panel, only on the standard Firebirds, TAs & Camaros door panels.

Re: Cup Holder

Yeah, but you could just get the whole door panel out of a formula like mine, and then re-cover it in new leather or something to make it look nice in a gta? Right?

I've never looked, but it is my understanding, even the metal brackets for the arm rest screws are different. Or the GTA door panels have brackets the others don't. Not sure WHAT it is. Never had 2 to look at, side by side to compare.

I've read on these boards that those break off easy and don't really hold drinks all that well. Is that true?

Re: Cup Holder

I use it to hold drinks every day! They are a little big for a can of beer or soda, but the inside is flat. I have never spilled anything by going over a bump with them. They do work a little better on the fountain soda cups. Also, it looks like a bad location, but with the low seating position of the f-car's they are right in hands reach.

The other little slot next to the cup holder I use for spare change ect.

So it must sound like you are listening to an orchestra everytime you driving, between all the ice rattling around and all the change clanking around. Just kidding though. Slow90 hit it on the head, they are way to big to fit just a can, but they will keep everything put. They don't look very sturdy though, and actually aren't since they are only held in with 3 bolts. They are a nice comfort, but too damn rare to find them if one breaks.

Re: Cup Holder

i agree with stephen that the ones you got adam wont fit my t/a either as i have the deluxe panels. and stephen in order to change to flat panels you need to get the arm rest and bracket. but i dont think you would do that to your gta. you like to be different huh.

Different, yes. But I'm not giving up my Deluxe Panels. If anything, I would cut the cup holder, to contour to the Deluxe panel.

I've even got a spare set of white GTA doors!

Re: Cup Holder

I have a set in my Camaro and I have the leather/carpet door panel. Never had a problem with spilage of size of cups or whatever. Modern Day Muscle sells them. Easy to install. And it's factory GM made. I don't want a Mercedes cupholder in my GM. Then again I am trying to do car shows and stuff so...

Nice idea, but I see a flaw....No bottom. So, loose change would fall right through....under hood heat would come up into the car....critters (rats, mice, crickets, general bugs, dust/dirt, cold/hot air) could get inside. Put a bottom on them, and I think they'll work good.

Cool looking, but again....I can see under car heat/cold air getting in. If there was some kind of "wrapping" under that mesh, it would look good.

Re: Cup Holder

My 86 t/a has 6 cupholders. 4th gen firebird door panels have a cup holder built into them and its not that noticeable. The 97-02 4th gen center consoles have 4 cupholders in them. If that wouldn't happen to be enough, the center console compartment might fit 3 if I built something in there for it. And the 4th gen dash glove box could be storage. This is if you want to put in a 4th gen dash and door panel setup.

They break off when people with big feet dont watch where they fling them

They hold drinks just fine, even the big super-slurpies

The down side is they are next to the heater vents so your Pepsi will become a steamie pretty fast

The map slot is pretty handy too

No bottom. So, loose change would fall right through....under hood heat would come up into the car....critters (rats, mice, crickets, general bugs, dust/dirt, cold/hot air) could get inside. Put a bottom on them, and I think they'll work good.
The console does not "seal" the car in any way. No underhood anything will enter into the cabin from these cupholders having no bottom
Plus, if it bothers you that bad, why not just glue another piece on the bottom

Good places to hold drinks Ive found:
91-92 Firebird OEM cupholders
Crotch
Small 20oz bottles fit snugly near the seatbelt receiver and do not get condensation on your clothes
You can fit a 20oz bottle laying down under the edge of the seat near the rocker trim

I brought up this exact idea up in another one of the million cupholder threads. If I had the cupholder to try it I would. Anyone have a cupholder and the deluxe (curved) door panels that they could check this out on ? Can the cupholder be ground down or cut down to work ? Anybody ?
