Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Well, I have the boring formula interior, cheepy seats, and well I guess there's isnt much besides the leather steering wheel and power windows. And I would like to add something to it to make it feel more... pick what word you like
So I dont want to buy some cheap plastic pedals, or generally any cheap looking chinese generic aftermarket fast and furious style parts. Nothing of that.
I ordered a rear view morror with dual lights. Thats one. Also I have ordered a -92 shifterplate which shows what gear your in. But this is just tiny things. Oh, right I'm also adding power locks, new ones, and will connect it to the alarm fob as I checked it can control such things, also the hatch. Guess what I want is some luxury feel to it. It feels very bare bones as it sits now. Dont even have a cd player. lol
Ok, I'll also add lighted cigarette lighter, to make it look a tad better.
Now what else is there to add? Do the T-top sunvisors come in a lighted mirror version for the passengers? Also I remember way back some guy on the board added some chrome rings to the gauges... I never found those anywhere for sale though. I also got a real leather shift booth, even smells good.
I'm not sure what more I can add, and not making it look like a cheapo hackjob. Any ideas? anything decent looking that adds convenience would be cool...
But yes, I will get a decent stereo when I get to it. but thats another thing entirely.

Add some leather 4th gen T/A seats, get a set with power track/lumbar/bolster. That will spruce things up a bit. While you're at it swap in a set of 4th gen seat belts too.

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
can't go wrong with an overhead console and t-top sun shades. Or new gauges.

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
i do like those gauges lol...they are pretty sweet...i think i'm gonna keep my stock T/A ones though, just cuz it saves work plus my gauge cluster is the whole damn dash board lol
and nice t-top shades...when i bought my car about 4 or 5 years ago the owner gave me them...i thought 'i like the t-tops so much, i'm just gonna stick the shades in my attic' so i did, and now that i have a new headliner (i took the old saggy one out as soon as i got the car pretty much cuz it exploded on the parkway while doing 110) i took the shades out of my attic and they were all droopy lol...i tried to fix them by cutting them open and gutting them and re-gluing them to the existing backing....but it didnt work out too well lol

The t-top shades are really easy to recover yourself, just get some fabric from a micheals or joannas, take the old fabric off clean the board real good and spray some 3m adhesive to it and stick on the new fabric and cut around the new shade.
Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
see i tried to save the old fabric...so i cut open 3 sides and folded it back and cleaned the board off real good...then i sprayed some headliner glue on it and folded it back over...the only problem is that the material for the headliner shades was so thin that the glue bled through and made it look like a mess....so this summer maybe i'll try again lol

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Yeah, thanks for the tips so far. My interior is nearly mint though, seats look almost brand new. headliner t top shades and passenger floor mat, do look brand new. The problem with getting new seats, is that shippinng would make them really expensive, and any new recaro's I've seen for sale around here cost an arm and a leg. More specificly, around 2000 us$ for each front seat. So unless I get a good deal on seats, I'm using the ones I have for now.
Was rather thinking of smaller "upgrades" to the interior that could be easily made/installed/shipped. courtesy lighting for instance. Thats cool.
Do there exist any cool shift handles and such if you use the stock shifter?
I'd like some embroidered floor mats, but I seem unable to find a curved one for the passenger side... their all flat, and then it wont fit right.

I'd suggest you google different car interiors (google images) and you will get some bad *** ideas. I am kinda in the same boat as you, I am thinking something completly different than what I originally had in mind. I want something more exotic.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Some more substantial seats would go a long way. Along with replacing a cracked dash pad. Wrapping your existing cracked pad with leather is a nice option as well.
A lot of the cheap feeling vinyl can be replaced with leather for a nicer feel.
Personally, I don't much like the dash in ANY of these cars. There needs to be something where the Passenger sits. The only thing that can be done with that is a dash swap, for the most part.

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Yeah, some nice brand new recaros would really make it a different car inside. But perhaaps down the road. The base seats are really **** though, both in looks and feel.
I scored a brand new shifterplate, which fixed 3 things; broken ashtray spring, crappy fake leatherbooth, and the non existing gear indicator. So that will make it a tad nicer imo, and brand new... cant beat that, nice shine and everything.
Not bad price either, 160 bucks.

Compared to a stock leather shift handle for 145, taht shifter plate was a bargain imo.
Is cruise control hard to retrofit and make it look stock, if using the stock lever thingy?

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
well as far as i know...you'll need the new blinker switch with cruise control on it, the wiring, and a diaphragm set up to attach to the throttle i believe....so if you can get all that off a junker car then it wont be too bad

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Well, here in Norway, there is no fourthgen cars at any junkyards. Thirdgens is sold for around 20-30k and fourthgens more.
So I was thinking getting the stalk at modernday muscle websie, they have them, but they are totally confuing in the description text, so I have noe clue which to get, as they have 6 or 8 different types.
Then I thought to make that work together with some aftermarket cruise control module, as again, there's no junkyard cars availiable. Also, I would prefer to not have to install it twice, old electronics can be questionable sometimes.
So do you guys think the leather shift handle for 145 bucks is worth it? pretty expensive imo, but it's brand new GM atleast. After searching the net, I found no universal aftermarket high end style shift handle for auto's, seems stock is the only choice.

One suggestions I can give ya is to get your interior planned first. Don't just get into it because putting too much crap in it (that seems cool at the time) can make the interior tacky and gawdy looking. I speak from experience.

I have some great floor mats, they are shaped to fit the floor pans perfectly. Got them on ebay, with blue embroidered bird logos.

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Located some really nice fourthgenseats unexpectedly. Wonder what is a good price for a set if their almost like new?
Also, today, After owning my car for almost 5 years, I realized I had been a total dumbass! I was under the impression I had a steering wheel that was better than base, that it was some sort of extra option leather steering wheel. But when it looks like rubber, feels like rubber, and even smells like rubber....guess what... it's NOT leather! Lol I always just assumed it was some crap quality leather, or just covered with some gunk from the factory that hadnt been worn off yet. What an idiot
So, I guess I dont have to have any second thought about swapping in a nicer steering wheel then, as in making it "non stock", and lower it's "appeal".
What you guys think of this steering wheel, would it enhance teh car, or would it cheapen the car?

Also got ahold of a NOS leather shiftknob, plus a mint handbrake lever.

Crap, I had these awasume seats going on ebay, but then lost the bid to another guy who bid the same amount.. Lol.. guess he bid 4 seconds befoe me, and hence won, and there wasnt any time left to add another bid, although I tried. Oh well
They did look awasume though, will be hard to find such good seats again I think. But now I'm really set on getting these, they look awsume!

Damn, I was already dreaming about these seats in my car.... ; " Nice new luxurious interior... means I could wear some nicer clothes to work and in freetime, and not get threads and dust all over it like on cloth seats... which again could lead to nicer women, both sitting in the car, and appreciating my whole new "look", both in clothing and car... ah, beautiful women..." Lol

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
If that set you're showing is the EXACT set you lost, rest assured, they were too expensive. I was watching them too...$1,000 for a set of seats? That's insane...
I've seen those seats for "buy it nows" of $650 - 700, which is even too rich for me, but oh well. I have OEM leather in my car, and while it remains a little stiff and dry, I keep conditioning them in the hopes of softening them up...I'm already getting somewhere with it. I have to have a bolster replaced and my driver's seat bottom repadded...otherwise they look pretty good for 17 year old leather seats...

Re: Upgrading the interior, add some class, need tips
Yeah, they went for 1050, expensive I guess, but then again, if you look at new recaros, thats actually really cheap. Allother more affordable seats are not leather usually it seems.
But I live in Norway, and here "expensive" get a whole new meaning. The thing is, I just got a new jjob with really good pay, over double what I had in my last job, and though "why not buy a newer car?". But although cars was taxed heavily before, now it's really insane. I priced the tax on a new challenger as I like that car, and could afford the car itself, no problem, it's just that the tax to be able to drive it legally here is $276 981, andno, thats not a wrong number. Challenger approx $41 000 + tax $276 981=$317 981
Soooo.... my though was, "new leather interior, ls7 engine, new paint, wheels, etc. would still be a heck of a bargain compared to a new challenger. Or any other "muscle" type car for that matter. Their all taxed similar like that.
Oh yeah, there's no tax on car parts, only 25% sales tax + freight. Still alot cheaper then anything new though. So yeah, a bigblock 1970 Cuda isnt that bad here comparativly lol
