Seat belt Re-call

i know this is one of the talked about issues on here, but i was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the re-call done, here lately. If so what kind of act of congress did they have to go through to ge the a-holes at the dealership to fix it. All i get is the run around, and to me it would seem like a liability issue if i got hurt in a wreck due to it failing and the dealership not honnering the recall

BTW refresh me on the years it covered and what the recall # was, i had all this info and seemed to have lost it

It is a little late on that recall, if I remember it was in 1988 and it was for the unlock push button and NOT the seatbelts. Also I don't think the Dealers too worried about liability issue on a 20+ year old recall. So sue the previous owners for not having it done.

Re: Seat belt Re-call

yea the push button, that basicly shatters the locking mech when you apply any force to it like a wreck, GM says i should be able to get it done at any dealership, but none want to do it

Re: Seat belt Re-call

It's a recall on a system that is prone to life-endangering failure. Those recalls are for life. The original text of the recall was to have customers come in and have the buckles looked at. If they looked fine, they were marked off the list. This is why I think so many of our cars aren't in GM's VIN recall database. Because this recall changed over time from inspect, then repair, to flat-out replace.

Re: Seat belt Re-call

yea as far as i knew once the NHTSA issued a recall, it was effective for life and had to be done if your car qualified, mine does.....

anyone know the recall #??

i wish someone had luck getting it done, i really dont want to do it my self, rather leave seatbelts to a dealer to do

Re: Seat belt Re-call

can't comment on the seatbelt recall but I can tell you that recently I did recall on a mid 80's olds for a evap vent solenoid.. the car had about 200k on the clock and barley ran but they still honored the recall. The customer wasn't interested in anything else..

Re: Seat belt Re-call

I had mine done 8 years ago, but here's my receipt. At least it's solid proof of a dealership doing it (albeit Canadian) and the campain (recall) # is listed (looks like you're correct on those).
Good luck. As mentioned this is a life saving device and the dealership should honour it. Replacing the seat belt buttons does require a specific tool that many dealerships do not have, they may be to lazy to bother but that's no excuse.

I replaced the seatbelt buckle push buttons myself. The kits are still available and you just need a flat bladed screwdriver to do it.I see on your invoice that you have recall# 90007 for the top latches. What was the problem as i just found out about this today for my 89 vert

Re: Seat belt Re-call

You can always do it yourself. I purchased a NOS seatbelt button kit on EBAY for $6.50 Took about 45 minutes to install. I did a search on EBAY under "Camaro NOS" The guy has a bunch of sets left.
