Interior Color Change

I am currently in the process of changing the color of my interior from the golden/tan to black/maroon. Any ideas on how best to color change interior plastic pieces or is it best to just purchase them black?

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Interior Color Change

Check out the company called SEM products. Great stuff and I change my interior panels from LT gray to black and it looks killer. REmember its in the prep you do that will determine the out come of your color change.

Re: Interior Color Change

i changed my interior from tan to black, just sand the old plastic down so none of the old loose paint is still on them, then spray paint them with some sort of plastic spray paint of your color choosing.

Re: Interior Color Change

I have done this aswell. My interior Originally was Grey ( Dove Grey) I think they call it..

- start By removing all the Interior panels you want to change color too.. Dont Leave them In the car and Paint them, thats Half A$$ed and could get undesired results ( My Friend Mike Learned the Hard way by not listening)

- Go Buy a Cleaner/ Degreaser that WONT leave any film or anything behind ( I used Purple Power).. Scrub all plastics down WELL Eliminating all dirt, armor all etc. Dry and Let it sit to ensure Dryness ( dont Rush it).. ( I also Hit it Once with My power washer to Ensure Nothing was Left On it, if you have one use it. ( they Looked really good after)

- After Drying You can ( I didnt do this because I was Afraid Of Making Deep scratches) use some Light sand paper that wont scratch to give the dye/spray alittle something then the grain designs to hold onto..

- I Hooked Parts One By one On a long 2X4 ontop of 2 TALL Saw horses. ( I used Metal clothes Hangers as brackets For the parts.. ( Works well)

- Start Spraying, start at the best Area you feel Comfortable, Do a first Coat, wait 20 mins ( depending On temp) and spray another coat..

- you will really enjoy the results.. just remember take your time and as another member said prep IS KEY..

* the More Coats the More Durable.
* I used Duplacolor Vynol fabric found at advance auto parts/ pep boys and auto barn..

* IMO Gloss Finish Makes the Interior Look Cheap, tacky.. I used a gloss finish on a few parts and it looked horrible and was fixed Immediately....

By the way... you CAN Do Fabric with this too, i did my carpet with this stuff and it came out MINT with No problems.. and be Prepaired For the Prep work.. ( if you dont have the patience dont even bother, get a new one you color of choice) - if its worn out in the passenger/ driver area, get a new one, because doing this with a warn carpet is hard to Do...and worthless

- If you think your carpet is Clean, think again, you will need a power washer for this one. My carpet was dove grey had alot of rust stains, water stains etc and when i bought it had MOLD on it.. I removed the carpet completly..

- Use a cleaner called GP FORWARD.. I have never seen it for sale To the public ( i got this from a Friend who works at a Facility). this stuff had to be cut with water before you used it...but spray 9 works really good too.. Lay Down a good amount of that stuff and Let it sit Overnight, Next Afternoon I started up my 3200 psi powerwasher and threw a 20* nozzle on and went to TOWN!.. YOU WILL NOT BELEAVE the crud that came out of this carpet ( 18 years of crap) Took me Over 1 Hour to Clean with a Powerwasher till just clean water was comming up... The finished results were flawless.. carpet looked brand new, so new i felt horrible coloring it.. depending on the weather your gonna have to let it sit for a few days to dry completely, while you wait check out your floor Bords.. You may uncover Some interesting stuff, I did ( A old Insurence card from 1991, a picture, surface rust starting On the floor bords etc.. i took the time out to sand down all rust, treat it, and paint it.. ( i have alot of pics of this process)

- once carpet is dry, spray away, i did one side at a time, came out real nice.. Use a brush why you are spraying to fully work the stuff into the carpet ( one of thise metal cleaner Brushes that are the size of a finger nail scrubber I used) this also keeps the fabric from getting too hard.. let it be for a few hours and start puttin your interir back in..

good luck, and if you have any questions PM, E-mail or Im me..
