Anyone ever use something like this? Whats it like?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/84-85...ayphotohosting

Am I better off just buying another used dash pad?

Re: Dashpad cover???

My friend got one and it just warped in the heat. Made his dash look even worse. If I was someone trying to get a cover, I would get one of those material covers. They look better and last longer. Or go the extra mile and get a real dash

Keep the shine products like Armour All off of it. Use H2O instead. Stay out of extreme heat or cold. Pray!

Re: Dashpad cover???

I live in El Paso and in the Southwest, a dash mat is a must unless you don't care about faded or cracked dashes. Get the kind made out of material. These plastic ones like this one on Ebay will just warp and crack just like a regular dash will. The material covers look good, are custom made for your car, are made to match your interior, eliminate glare from the sun reflecting off your dash board, and you can have suft embroidered on them ... anything from cartoon characters to symbols ... I have the make of my car printed across the center as kind of a car show look. A custom one with some embroidery might cost $50 at a local shop in my town.

Re: Dashpad cover???

I personally think the carpet/material covers look pretty *******. I'd rather have cracks. They rank up there with mudflaps and nose bras.

As for the one in the link the OP posted, they fit and look real nice. I'd go that rout if I ever need a new pad. I can't say how heat will effect it, but I know heat destroys REAL dash pads, so either way you S. O . L. ...I used a sunshade when my car was a DD, and even now when I park it in the direct sun, I throw a towel up on the dash. ....works for me.

Re: Dashpad cover???

I searched for months and got a new (used) dash pad in great shape off ebay for about $250. I was told to only rarely ever use shining products, and then only use those without silicone. Was told to only use windex or plain H2O for dusting.

BUT - I also have a carpet material cover that I use to keep it covered always. It works well, fits good, and was cheap at about $30. I also have one in my 1997 Z28. I use non-silicone shiny stuff (I think F-21 Turtlewax) like 4 times a year, Windex to lightly dust, and recover with the carpet cover. Then, to top it all off, I use a windshield deflector as well (because I'll never own a car that's NOT a daily driver).

{However ... right now, I'm not using anything - the car is in the paint shop, and all the pieces are in my spare room lol}

Re: Dashpad cover???

Hello, I'm "thecovergirl" that does the upholstery work and custom fit dash pad covers for the Camaro and Firebirds. The ones I make are made with top quality black automotive carpet that resists fading, and UV sun resistant binding is sewn all the way around them. They reduce the glare by 99%. You would be amazed if you put one on your dash. I have been making these for a while now and have sold a very large amount. Every person I have sold one to has been extremely happy. For the 93-02 Models, mine only cover the plastic piece that always cracks and is so expensive to replace. Mine do not hang down over the front of the dash and they make the inside of your car very clean and neat looking. To boot, they only cost a fraction of the cost that a brand new dash pad would cost you. I have them for $35.00 which includes Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. They come with velcro if you like to use it. I have been doing upholstery for 16 years now and I do very nice work. If you would like to see some of my work or the dash pad covers, please visit birdsandbowties.com. Thanks, "thecovergirl"

Re: Dashpad cover???

Do you offer covers with holes for the speakers? It would be nice to put that on the dash to cover up some nasty cracks, but still be able to hear music through the dash speakers.

Hello, yes I offer the speaker holes also. I can cut them out for you and sew the sun resistant binding around the edges. Whay year and model do you have? I know some people don't like the dash pad covers, but I know for a fact since I have sold so many of these that there are more people who like them than people who don't. Mine are very neat and as far as cosmetics goes, they really make the insdie look alot better expecially if you have cracks.

Hi, I have an '89 Camaro. I probably won't order one until I go home however because I'm on TDY right now for the Air Force.

That's fine. Just let me know when your ready. I have not had one person that did not like my dash pad covers and that is the truth. I don't use that cheap velour that MOST of the dash mat companies use. I use a top quality black automotive carpet and mine last forever. I had a guy who bought one about five years ago and emailed me wanting another one. It took me a while to figure out who he was, but after looking through the names of people I have sold to; sure enough, I found who he was. He had said that he loved the carpet dash pad cover he bought from me and was ready to buy another one for his other Firebird he had recently bought. I actually have alot of emails from people who have bought them and were impressed with my design as far as the 93-2002 models go. Anyways, just let me know when your ready.
