Door pannel removal

pretty simple for someone who's done it before. How do I get the door pannel off my 92? Do I just need to take all the bolts out of the armrest then It'll lift out or is there more?

Re: Door pannel removal

unbolt the arm rest. take off the door lock switch panel there is a bolt behind it that has to come out. slide out the door cups. use a door trim stud tool to pry out all the studs behind the card board panel. once there all loose remove 3 clips from the top door rail by pulling up and lightly prying the clips out. it should slide right off at this point. while you back there lube the window tracks and door locking mechanism as so you dont have to take the panel off again in the near future for those reasons. yours may differ being that its a firebird but it should be realitivley the same. youll have to cross those different bridges when you come to them

To add to the above, if you have crank windows there is a metal pin behind the ****, pliers or the special tool will prove useful for this.

Be careful not to take out too many screws after you get the panel off or your window mechanism can fall out of place lol.

"White lithium spray lube" Is the best for lubing the regulator. It's what they use at the factory and it is waterproof and dos'nt attract dirt. Just be careful what you get it on, it dosent wash off of fabric!!! It's available at most parts stores.

Ok, I'm guessing these's a screw behind the little pastic bird on my door, but is that black circle in the handle well a screw too?
And I dont get what you do with the black palstic top part. I tried to just pull it out or up but didn't want to break it.

put your window down, and then with the door open, push the black upper armrest peice forward, towards the outside of the car, and up all in one motion. make sure you have all the clips in the door panel popped out or else that will stop the panel from moving. Just make sure not to get frustrated when doing it and take your time so you dont break the clips in the back of that top peice. hope i helped.

Re: Door pannel removal

Im still confused, dont have that much experience. when you say push it towards the outside, what do you mean? If I open the door and I am now facing the panel, do I push it to the left or to the right while pushing up?

Re: Door pannel removal

I think you push up and out if you are facing the panel.

My question is (might help you too), how do you get the little plastic clip with the bird logo on it off without scarring or breaking it? I jacked the piece on my parts car up really good with a flat screwdriver.

Also, did someone say to take all the panel clips out BEFORE trying to remove the top piece? That might be why I couldn't get mine off.

Re: Door pannel removal

There is an easier way to get the clips holding black top part free I discovered. Once you've removed all the screws, handles and clips previously mentioned, lift up on the panel from the bottom while also pulling it inward. Then give the the panel a bump toward the rear of the door. It will slide to the rear and clear the ramps that the top clips are engaged on and come off easily. The top clips had been frustrating for me to remove at times previously before I learned this trick.

your not kidding, ive broken many top rails because of this. Taking the door panels/top rails off is still easier than say removing a hardtop's a pillar

If that will work with the window up there's a lot of door panels I could select from at the JY. At least without lugging a battery in, which I've done.

Re: Door pannel removal

I broke a lot of top rails at the junkyard before I figured it out. Go to a junkyard and practice there.....

Re: Door pannel removal

I found this post in a search for door pannel removal.

I was going to replace my driver side door handle as the spring that keeps tention on it it is loose.

Where can I get the tool to pop the fasteners loose... mentioned in the 2nd post ?

And any updates to the door pannel removal ?

Thanks
