I am converting my 89 pontiac firebird formula ws6 into knight rider kitt. I found the pontiac shifter **** for an automatic and shaft intact in an 82 that was getting ready for the crusher in the junkyard(even found a driver side pmd seat!)

anyway, my problem is this. The shaft of the shifter is too long for my vehicle by about 2 inches. Is there anything I can do besides cutting to make this work?
