How do you remove 145 gauge cluster?

I found an early style 145 speedo gauge cluster and would like to know how to remove it. I tried to do it this afternoon and was able to figure out which bolts needed to be taken out but it is still being held in by the speedo. Is there some connector I have to undo? How do I access that area... from the kick panel? I don't want to ruin it because it is in perfect shape.

Thanks,
Mike

There is something but it has been a long time since I did the early style. Do a search. I am sure there will be something on it.

You can gain alil slack be loosening the cable from inside the engine compartment be taking out a few bolts that hold the cable to the body.

Cable is held to the speedo be a thin aluminum clip that has to be pushed/ pulled up. if you can get your fingers to it, you'll be able to feel your way to get it off. Expect to have cuts bruises and maybe have hands bleed

Yeah its always fun trying to get the mechanical gauge clusters out.Its held in by 2 10mm screws. One on each side at the bottom.Next I usually undo the 2 13mm bolts that hold up the steering column and let that drop down all the way. This will give you some room to get your hand behind the cluster and hopefully get access to the speedo clip.Just reach behind it and push on the clip.It should pop right off.Dropping the column also makes it possible for the cluster to be pulled out cause there isnt enough clearance to do it otherwise
