Advice on re-gluing Trans Am console

Has anyone found a glue that works on the center console when the sides seperate? Mine is at the starting stages so I am looking for a tried and true way to repair it before it gets worse.

Thanks

Wes

I used a two part epoxy designed for repair of plastic panels, automix I think it's called. Picked it up at a body shop years ago when the plastic door skin on my 94 started separating from the door. Mixed it up, filled in the gaps and held everything together overnight with some wood strips and a passel of clamps. That was three years ago. Held up since.

I've heard Gorilla Glue works well. Like said, you need to clamp it ... and use wood strips between the clamps and the console so you don't get dimples from the clamps.

I have heard the Gorilla glue fix and was leaning that way unless someone had another suggestion.

I have seen the drywall screw method too. To this point, I have somehow resisted the urge.

Thought about it... but I'm not gonna. I hate to make holes where there shouldn't be any.

I used Gorilla Glue on my GTA's console and it worked great.

gorilla glue FTL. in the sun it will lose it's grip. it held good for me for around a year before it went south. I bought this stuff its called "automotive goop" or something like that (its in a red tube). its an adhesive to hold automotive emblems and weather stripping on, so I tryed it and needless to say I'm very happy.

Gorilla glue works very well, but make sure and test fit your shifter plate before you glue it. Once that stuff is set it's not coming loose. I didn't test fit mine before gluing it, and my shifter plate doesn't fit in my console anymore. Neither were in very good shape anyways, but it would suck to ruin a good one.

Re: Advice on re-gluing Trans Am console

The guy that had my dad's '86 TA before him did the sheet-metal screw method ... but at least he used some nice shiny washers to enhance the "custom" look lol. We just ended up getting a new console.

I've got a very nice console bottom i can sell if anyone is interested. Along with an auto shifter plate (no power mirrors or window switches) with a perfect shift boot out of a '92 Firebird. Very small burn mark on the ashtray of the shift plate.
