Shift ****

I have read a good many old posts on this but want to be crystal clear. I have a 91 RS 5 speed and want to replace the black plastic shift **** w/ something that looks a little better. One of the posts suggested using vice grips and channel locks, and something to break it free, is this correct? Also I read it has metric threads, short of cutting/retapping is there anything out there in the Hurst/ B&M lines that work? Thanks

Which shifter do you have? Is it the round ball or the leather shifter? I doubt you will need channel locks or vice grips. Both factory ***** are held on with clips that are easily removed once we know the type you have. A 91 should have a C clip in the front that is pulled out with needle nose plyers or a flat head screw driver. Post a picture.

Re: Shift ****

He has a 5 speed, so it should just unscrew. Its going to be really tough, but it should break free with some muscle.

I found some shifter ***** for our cars at a swap meet (16mm x 1.5) and he even had 5 speed patterns. They are around.

Re: Shift ****

Guys thanks for the replys. Funny story, last time I tried removing it(17 years ago) I guess the threadlock/loctite the factory put on it was fresh. When I came home from work tonite and tried it, it unscrewed like opening a coke, imagine that.

The B&M Hammer shifter is a direct fit. Check my Car Details below for a pic.

Re: Shift ****

They do make a black leather shift **** that would make a great upgrade. They cost around $40 shipped.
