Re: ac/heater

Having similar issue. From what I`ve found out from searching and looking at it is...It`s hard to pinpoint it.There is a bunch of vacume hoses going all around back thier. On mine I cant get that little door to close down there since I replaced the heater core.I can close it by hand and hear a hise from the vacume but cant find it.In my case I`m afraid pulling the dash may be what I have to do.I will exhaust all other options first.Have you tried moving the door by hand?I also pulled the HVAC controls to make sure everything was still hooked up.I dunno.Good luck.Hopefully someone else will chime in.If you search and figure it out or just figure it out be sure to popst what you find.

Re: ac/heater

I've been facing the same problem as well since I bought my car ('89 GTA) last year. The doors the to the ducts won't open at all. I thought it was the blower motor at first but had a friend inspect it and it was working fine. It turns out that the orange vacuum hose; the one that is attached to the vacuum hose bundle that plugs in behind the a/c controls is cut therefore when vacuum is applied, it won't open the door. I purchased a good used vacuum hose set off an 86' firebird at my local junk yard. Problem is that getting to it to remove them was a PITA and the dash was already mostly gutted. I had to remove most of the dash to access the heater box as well as a screw that holds the box from the engine compartment (pointing inwards) not to mention remove the outter box ( in the engine compartment) to gain access to the back of the heater box in the interior which is where those hoses would plug in. If I do decide to do it myself I'm probably looking at 3-4 hours of work maybe more . I'll have to think long and hard about this. If anything, I'll post up when I get this fixed.

Later,

Phoenix

I fyou can see where the vacuume hose is cut you should be able to splice in a piece instead of taking all that crap out.

Re: ac/heater

I've actually tried super gluing it wouldn't stay stuck so I gave up on it. Haven't tried spicing in another piece though that could work. I'll give it a shot.

Re: ac/heater

I had the same problem as shadygrady, after I replaced my heater core only my defroster would work. Then one day I got in my car, turned my heater on and heard a clunk come from in my dash, and now it all works fine. My point is, it was most likely just a door that wasn't sitting right. Just go down there and mess around with 'em. You at least can't make it too much worse, right? That would probably be the simplest thing to start with.
