Dash, AC/Heat and Shifter Light change ?

I would like to change all of my interior lighting (Dash cluster, AC/Heat and Auto shift light on console). I know I can buy the bulbs from MC... something and do the cluster but can you use the same bulbs to do the AC/Heat control unit and the light for the Automatic shift column? Want to do it all or nothing so it all matches.

Thanks
Pete

I swapped the lights in the cluster as well as the AC heater control head, and in my case the console clock (85 IROC). Looks great. Frankly, it's what GM should have done in the first place.

James, does it make the heater controls very much brighter, does it take the same bulbs as the cluster.
Thanks

I just got a reply from McEwen racing who sells those bulbs. The message said yes the same bulbs including the shifter. 4 for dash cluster. 1 or 2 for heater/AC unit and 1 for shifter.

it's all the same type of bulb

replace all those bulbs with either 168's or Mac Ewen's xtra bright 194's.

personally, anything brighter than the 168's are overkill and the 168 is a big improvement

194 - puts out about 2 watts of light
168 - puts out about 3 watts of light

so think of the 168 being 150% and the 194 being 100%. what would you rather have?

Camarokid01,

Frankly, not much is going to make the AC/Heater control head brighter, but there is improvement. Yes, the stock black gauges are much brighter. In my 85 IROC, I think I replaced a total of 11 xenon clear bulbs in the cluster, 1 in the AC and 2 in the console clock. The replacement is what GM should have done in the first place.

sorry guys I have one more question, I was looking at the Macewen website and they offer the Xenon pale blue bulbs and the clear bulbs, which bulbs are you guys using, and would the clear ones be brighter than the xenons. Thanks again.

If I recall correctly, all the bulbs are xenon. Should you go to white-faced gauges, a color could be very cool (and I suspect much brighter). With the stock gauges, however, my vote goes to the clear xenons.

it seems to me that the clear bulbs that macewen sell gotta be bright as all hell. anebody other than me upgrade everything to 168's? it's a huge improvement.

all small bulbs in my car are 168's.

I removed the "chrome" and black panel behing the actualy climate control display and it's much brighter.

my foglamps have 9005 hi-beam bulbs instead of the 885 foglamp bulbs.
and my parking lamps and tailamps have 2357/2356/168 instead of the 1157/2057/194 bulbs

and also my CHMSL bulbs are a brighter bulb, though I can't remember the PN.

every bulb on my vehicle has been upgraded to a brighter light and it shows side to side v.s. the stock lights.
