ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

Whats the best way, to cut and or trim, a new abs plastic headliner? old headliner disintegrated. Mouse trouble. could not use as a template for overhead console. Has any one cut this using a Razor, or Dremel tool?

Re: ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

After spending 3 hours on all the old posts and doing searches. the best way, is to use a Dremel tool on the lower setting. As so it don't melt the plastic.
I bought my headliner back in June and still haven't had time to install. But it looks good for this coming week.

Where exactly did you cut it? Is it possible that you took pictures.

Re: ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

no pal, sorry. once i started, there was no turning away. i do know i used the instructions provided (hand drawn photo copy) and measurements, but i cut holes small, and went slow, then go back and trim & cut more. I was very glad after installation. really good fit. considering the headliner laid flat in guest room for 2 years.

My headliner came with gaps in the ABS for where the dome light, visors and seat belt slits needed to go. 1aauto sells ABS headliners

Re: ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

let me search my receipts. I'll tell you 2morrow afternoon. i do know i bought it from an E-bay store. The headliner came fully covered, in the interior color of my choice, and the holes for seat belts and visor, dome light were already there. you just had to cut through the fabric with a razor. good money spent for my happiness.

I'm interested in doing one that can be painted simply because I NEVER want to have to worry about the cloth coming off anymore. You don't by chance have a pic of one from a customer (or your own car), do you?

How are they shipped? Rolled or flat?

Re: ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

Unfortunately, since we just started selling the uncovered ones, I don't yet have any photos to pass along. As for shipping, these usually come rolled up to cut down on the size of the shipping box. You will need to unpack it a couple days before installation to allow it to make its way back to a normal shape.

and as much as my headliner needs replacing, my motor & trans swap is eating up all my money. I can deal with a funky headliner if it means I can hear that 5.3 run

Re: ABS plastic T-Top Headliner

Probably not a very useful reply...but I bought mine about 10-12 yrs ago from someone(back when thirdgen restoration parts were very rare). Paddock I think. It was a split design in the middle and had a ABS plastic backing.

I cut it for my overhead console and the plastic got hot and stuck to the cloth covering...so not melting that plastic is key. Sounds like you guys have figured out how to do it right.

I used my old disintigrating headliner to find the holes.

Finally...headliner fabric is still staying up after all this time and looks like it did when I put it in.
