Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

I have the same problem. I'm going to paint all my interior plastics at the same time so they match. Probably not the answer you'd like to hear.

If anybody else has any ideas please chime in.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

Hey,

My interior is tan and the back panels are doing the same thing. I couldn't find any information on the color name but chances are you will have to paint all the plastic...which kind of sucks. However, all the colors will match and it will make the car look that much cleaner.

My question is how much would it cost to get paint for all the panels and whats the prep work for it.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

It seems the tan color name is hard to find. I'm wondering if talking to someone at a Chevy dealer would make it easier on you to find the exact color.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

My 89 iroc has tan interior. Mine is called medium beechwood. They might of called it a different name in 86 and maybe the shade is different too. If you're trying to match the other panels with the paint they say is correct, you have to remember that most likely the rest of your panels and interior are probably faded and the paint is not going to match. Might have to paint all the panels.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

The shades of tan changed depending on the year. Have you tried SEM# 15753? It's called light oak and matches some tan panels I have from the mid 80's.

wetsand them smooth and buff them out. they will have a smooth look to them then. I've done that before to restore color loss on plastics.

well I know for a fact, the piece that goes under the hatch isn't faded, nor is the kick panels and nothing matches.

I thought you folks with the tan had it easy compared to my trying to match carmine red. I know what you mean about those rear plastics though, mine are chalky looking too.

yeah i know.. sand them down and get past the "chalky" layer... sand with like 320... then 400... 600... 800... 1000... 1500... and buff them out they will look awesome. you can make them look smooth too by sanding away all the rough textured finish.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

Hey guys. I have an 86 iroc and the interior is called "Light Saddle Tan". I know this because I purchased that color headliner from Hawks and it was color matching. I actually am looking for this paint too. Haven't really looked anywhere except on the net and couldnt find it...

For what its worth, decode your RPO Codes, and that will tell you what to look for and GM should have info for you.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

The bottom line seems to be, copy your VIN and REPO codes to GM dealers and ask them to tell you what to get, and where if they are no longer able to supply.

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

Here are my RPO codes for my 1987 IROC Z28 5spd, with A/C
AR9 AR9 : SEAT, FRT BKT, EUROPEAN STYLE, PASS A DRIVER RECL

B34 B34 : COVERING, FRONT, FLOOR MATS, CARPETED INSERT

B35 B35 : COVERING, REAR, FLOOR MATS, CARPETED INSERT

62B 62B : TRIM COMBINATION, CLOTH, LT SADDLE (B)

The plastic color is a light tan, or light camel, again, go to your part, record the part number information, etc., contact your GM dealer.

Richard.

Awhile back I pulled a rear area carpet from an 86 camaro sport coupe and on the underside it has a paper tag attached that reads GM F Body LT Saddle.I believe it also has a part# but its packed away in the basement so I cant get at it right now to check

I also have Light Saddle Tan (I purchased a headliner from Hawks years ago and it matched..).. I would be great if there was a pre-made paint for our interior plastics!

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

Has anyone attempted to do the heat gun method on our plastics? I saw on YouTube, there was a fella restoring interior and exterior plastic panels to original colors using a heat gun. Basically, the heat would melt the plastic just enough to get rid of the fade.

I need some too. I've bought a few different cans, and can't find an exact match for my '85. I was going to have some mixed up, but never got around to it.

FWIW, this didn't help me at all.

Still need saddle paint and looks like carpet in the next few months!

i believe most people use PPG Dye to redo their plastics. you can take your interior color code and have them mix you up the color. i think you can get them at your local paint supply store. https://www.ppgpaints.com/home

Re: TAN Interior people!! Paint Match?

I went through this a few years ago trying to match code 62 interior paint on my 87. There are multiple shades of code 62 in the paint books - dark, medium, light, which correspond to paint codes 62C or 62CN, 62B/62BN, and 62A/62AN. Code 62, sometimes called saddle, sometimes called camel, was used on Pontiacs, Chevy, Olds and Caddy from 85-87 and in 88 on Buick, Olds and Caddy only.

Further confusing matters, 62B as your interior code doesn't mean 62B or 62BN is the matching interior paint color. On a Camaro in 1985, 62B was the code for the standard cloth interior in saddle. 62C was the custom cloth interior, etc. There was also 62D, 62E, 62N, and 62R interior codes, but they are all the same color.

62A or 62AN should be the PAINT color code that matches the trim panels on a code 62x interior.

As a side note, it has long been a source of frustration for me trying find interior trim/restoration parts for the 87 GTA, because it seems like nobody realizes that the 87 GTA code 62 interior isn't the same as the 88-up code 66 Beechwood interiors. But I digress...

I ordered my paint in a spray can from these guys www.themotorcompany.com They don't have it on their web site, you have to call. And it isn't cheap - over $20 a can plus shipping. But you should be able to order it from any local automotive paint store as well. The original PPG number was 25230, but they'll likely have to cross reference that to something newer.
