interior confusion

I have an 87 Iroc and I think I have the wrong seats in the car. I know the door panels are the wrong color and also not the right style, the 87 only with the diagonal pattern.

My trim code is 82C, cloth med. dk. gray.
My RPOs include:
AC3: ADJUSTER, FRT ST, POWER, 6 WAY, BKT, DRIVER
AG9: ADJUSTER, SEAT, POWER, 6 WAY
AR9: SEAT, FRT BKT, EUROPEAN STYLE, PASS A DRIVER RECL
B42: COVERING, FLOOR MAT, LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FITTED
B18: ORNAMENTATION, INTR, DELUX
B34: COVERING, FRT FLOOR MATS CARPETED INSERT
B35: COVERING, REAR, FLOOR MATS CARPETED INSERT
YR1: SEAT,FRT CUSTOM
YS1: SEAT,RR CUSTOM
82C: TRIM COMBINATION, CLOTH, MED DK GRAY (C) (91)
82I: INTERIOR TRIM, MED DK GRAY (91)
829: SEAT BELT COLOR, MED DK GRAY (91)

The front dr. seat is a 6 way power seat & the pass side does recline
The rear hatch are is indeed carpeted however the center conole is not. It's all a very dark gray color (not black). The only part that is not the same dark gray is the pass side kick panel, it's black and obviously the wrong one.

The seats are listed as custom, however aren't those supposed to have the diagonal patterns like the door panels? All 87s i've seen have this, however some used parts sellers list the exact same seats as I have as correct for 87.

Here's some interior pics

Any help would be really appreciated. I'm not aiming for the original look but am wondering what should go in here. I'll probably replace the door panels with some leather likes and get some leatehr like covers for the seats too. Not a huge fan of cloth.

Re: interior confusion

Those seats are not factory to the car. It looks as if a previous owner installed seats from an 88-up Camaro as well as swapping most of the grey interior out for black. Notice how the previous owner re-used the original Grey plastic trim on the drivers seat.

Re: interior confusion

But is med. dark gray the light gray color as on the seat control bezel?? I though it was the dark grey that's on the console and rest of the interior plastic

Re: interior confusion

There was only 1 "Grey" offered in 87,....... and it should match the color of your door panels. The rest of your interior is black - not "dark grey".

Re: interior confusion

It's not black, the pic makes it look black. It really is a dark grey. In the top pic you can see the passenger side kickpanel, that is black. See the color difference with teh stuff around it? The other parts are all that dark grey color.

Re: interior confusion

After comparing the 2 kick panels I see what you mean. After seeing that differance my Guess would be 1982-84 "Charcoal" plastics.

Re: interior confusion

That would be my guess too. There were spare parts in the trunk, amongst which there were sill plates that were the light gray color that the door panels have. Weird that someone swapped out the interior. One plus though, it's much easier to get matching leather seats like some nice recaros in the dark colors.

Weird thing is, the gauges seem to be original with the correct rpm redline for the 5.7 and it has the square shifter **** too. The **** is that same color dark grey. This is a UK car, it was used as a GM promotional vehicle for the 1st year. I would think the odds of someone in the UK swapping out all the interior parts for the charcoal items and then finding the right charcoal square shifter **** is pretty slim. Also, the door panels, maybe one of the prev. owners ordered some replacements based on the color and got those, which don't match the rest.

I'll have to get to the bottom of this. The center console does list all the correct rpo codes and vin too. The seats match all the options, reclining, 6 way power...and so on.

Re: interior confusion

i have a 90 camaro and that is what came with it, but not the power seats, which i did not get.
the light grey is also what my 90 camaro has.
but the carpet on my console is a dark grey but i know it it original equipment as i bought the car new off the showroom floor.
if the seate have lumbar support and two vacume hoses connecting each other then you are a 91 or later camaro.
gm went to the connection between the two electric seats in 91 or 92 and used it in every conencted bucket electric seats for until about 2004.
now there is only one place to get new ones, out of a gm factory in tenn.
i like the way it looks. i got rid of my 90 seats and put in 2004 leather electic ones.
nice ride.

Re: interior confusion

The seats don't have lumbar, they only have the controls on the side.
What option code gets you the carpeted console? The rear is carpeted on mine, but the console obviously is not. The car IS an 87 model, build date 12/86 but it has that weird 1A2: SEO VEHICLE, PUBLIC SERVICE code.

I'm going to have to note what it all has and hasn't. Mine lists a rear comp. shade but it's no longer there, will have to check if the plastics have the mounting provisions for one.

I also have rear carpets and a locking compartment but the rpo codes for those are not in the list and I don't have bose either.

I can't believe someone in the UK with limited access to parts would swap all this out. The door panels are obviously done by one of the prev owners but the rest looks like it either came that way or was changed by a dealer. Maybe GM used the car in 87 as a demo and then in 88 also and changed the interior. I know for a fact it was not sold to the public until the very end of 1988.

I buy a camaro and sure enough it's a fricken mystery machine LOL

Re: interior confusion

I think I know what I want, I absolutely love this:

I think it's an original 89 interior. Does ANYONE know if there is a vendor who sells leather (or vinyl) covers and these leather (or vinyl) door covers? Since someone redid the entire interior in very dark gray and black carpet I might as well finish what he started and do the door panels and the seats
