Removing Steering wheel - Will not come off!

I have a 90 Camaro with the airbag steering wheel I'm trying to remove.
I have taken the steering wheel off. The horn buttons are removed and the nut is off the column but the steering wheel will not come off the shaft where the splines are. I have a steering wheel remover but the part that spins onto the shaft is to long and the threads won't turn onto it.

So how do I remove this thing?
Thanks for the responses.

So you have the little safety clip off the end of the shaft, and the big nut is off. And she wont budge?

Are you using this type of puller?

And do you have it set up like this?

(yes i know this isnt a steering wheel...but shows how it should look)

It should come off fairly easily. Ive been able to wiggle them off sometimes.

Re: Removing Steering wheel - Will not come off!

I was going to make a thread of my own, but I suppose I can squeeze this question in on this thread. I just bought an aftermarket grant steering wheel. Well, I am trying to get my horn to work. The little plastic tube with the spring and metal contact that is supposed to be put inside the plastic horn tunnel on the steering collumn is supposed to be pushed down and twisted to the right and then click in place? Well, for some reason I guess I broke off a piece of plastic and now even if I push in and turn it, it pops right back out. Any idea how I can fix this?

I'd really like to have a horn, even though I really only use my finger

replace the cam, very common to break off the tab that holds it in place

Thanks for the replies guys.
The steering wheel puller I'm using is alot different then the one shown above. In fact the one above looks like what will work exactly for me. Thanks guys I'll give it a try.

if the plastic thing is big enough, you can get a screw driver really hot and create a new hole for it to click into.

or you can do it like i did and cut that whole plastic thing off and solder a wire to the metal thing at the bottom.

You can remove the steering wheel with your hands if you dont have access the steering wheel puller. Make sure your Steering shaft is bolted nice and tight, and go nuts on that steering wheel, rocking every which way. Mine came off this way. First camaro i used the puller it made it a little bit easier, But i wanted to see if it would come off without it, and it did, 20 year old stock steering wheel.

this way works in a pinch. put the nut back on, and make it flush with the shaft.(in other words dont tighten it all the way back down). sit in the car, plant your feet on the floor and pull on the steering wheel. while having someone smack the shaftand nut with a ball pean hammer. Ive done it this way a bunch of times.

Well, popballz... I really like the soldering idea... But tell me this. What is the point in having the spring and everything there. Is it so when the airbag deploys it wont get hung up on the wire?
