Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
I just started on mine a few minutes ago. I spent about 15-20 minutes sanding down all the vinyl. I must say I kind of like how smooth the dashpad is this way. lol. I am letting the "Great Stuff" sit at the moment, waiting for it to expand and harden. I really hope it works, because it just looks like one bif mess at the moment.

If you click the second link, the guy uses the urethane adhesive. If you can fab up the corner pieces, you might be able to fix it.

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
I have a crack in the side of mine. I think since the "Great Stuff" didn't fix my huge cracks, I'm going to do a second coat tommorow morning, but I'm going to use a little bit of bondo this time and I'll try to mold the corner with the bondo. It won't be perfect, but it won't show the ugly foam underneath.

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
Well... I already bought the bed liner... haven't used it yet, but damnit. lol. Didn't know that existed. Where can I buy it and how much is it? I've got my dash completly sanded down and all my cracks are filled, but the plastic on the dash is higher in some places than others (like on side of the crack is higher than the other) and if I try to press down on it, I cause more cracks. Any advice?

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
Yes I plan to use it on all my interior peices to "remove" the scratches. Sand them all smooth then coat them with the SEM texture paint. Its exspensive though ($8 a can) but will give you a more refined look then bed liner. On SEM's website there is a dealer locater.
See the problem with our dashpads is they are not Solid. There more of a vinyl overlay. Makes it easy to crack even with this repair because there material is old and brittle. If you could make the dashpad more of a solid base I don't feel the correction would be so complicated.

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
Here's my progress so far. Taking my time on it for the time being. Fuel Pump in my car went out the other day so that's gotta get fixed first. lol. Gonna be putting a whole lot of money in my car this month hopefully. This is one of the things I plan on having fixed.
I've got the cracks filled and sanded. They're not quite level, but I'm working on that. I didn't break off the plastic around the cracks first, like I was supposed to I think, but it's coming along decently as is.

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
This tutorial is fantastic. I tore out my dash, and body filled the 2 cracks around the center and also slopped on a ton of the stuff right on one of the corners of the dashpad. After it was dry, i shaped the corner and sanded down the cracks I filled. After using the spot puddy and painting, I used a special dash paint by dupli color(has a rougher texture) and the dash looks much better than it did before. It's by no means perfect, you can still see the cracks in direct light but it looks a whole ton better than it did before. The corner as well is not even noticable unless you look really close. Thanks alot, saved me 300 dollars!

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
if you would have cut 1/2" to 1" past the crack or cracks then fill it. It wouldnt show the cracks. I did the same as you lol.
Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
sorry to bring up an old thread but I was wondering for the people that did this how well it held up also another quick question wouldn't it be easier to take all the vinyl off and paint the whole thing after you fixed the cracks but wondering if this worked for anyone. Thanks in advance for the replies

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
great thread... my dash looks terrible, gives me something to think about.
Mine seems uneven, like the foam underneath it has expended or eve warped in some spots. Anybody else experienced this?
can you see it, the mountainish area about 4 inches to the left of the first crack?

Re: Can you FIX a cracked dashpad?
i dont know if anyone said this or not (did not bother reading the whole thread) but 4th gen dash pads are solid plastic. i just use plastic weld epoxy to fix mine and covered it with a sheet of vinyl. cam out good but then i sold it because it wasnt the right dash pab for my swap lol
