CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
I just got my new carpet, to go with my new seats and other toys. The carpet comes from Trimparts Inc, and it looks great. But and here is the problem, I bought the extra trim package and for the life of me I cant figure out where everything goes. I know it sounds dumb.
so I got one figured out, it looks like it goes over the aftermarket inside rear deck lid. it is the one on top. another peice looks like fits over where the spare tire goes, its in the middle, but the rest, im at a t loss.
any help will be appreciated. i hope the pics fit.

Yes that is where they'll go. No 2 plastic parts back there are the same, so you shouldnt have trouble finding out where they go back there.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
i already figured out 2 of the 3 but the other 3 are the problem.
when i asked for help i actually wanted help - not just - "well they go in the back". that is about as helpful as telling me they go inside the car, someplace.
and i looked at your site with pics - i sure hope you got yours back together.
there is no place in the trunk area that i can see that takes the other 3.
anything specific would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, Im guessing you already figured out the bottom 3 in your pic. They will go on the side plastics in the hatch area. As for the top 2 they kinda look like they will go on the plastic piece that covers the hatch motor. You think they could go there? I dont see why not, I cant think of anywhere else they would go lol.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?

1: goes here almost at the top should be obvious where

2:honestly im not sure at the moment
3: panel over spare tire
4:by the hump on the drivers side goes over the wheel well
5:same as #4 except opposite side
edit: i think #2 goes on the side with the glove box thingey. maybe you have to cut the carpet? or is there a piece missing?

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
set number 2.
the ones for the passenger and drivers side dont fit at all. and the angels of the curve are way off.
which means the drivers side rear glove box is not covered and neither is the rest of that side.
anyone think that these two larger pieces are supposed to be cut so that the seat belt box is left as is and the other piece goes over the sides.
i dont want to do a cut job to find out that i cut the darn thing wrong.
everything else fits ok but i have not put it in yet, nor have i put in the leather electric front seats. you can see that the rear seat has been installed already as it is one piece.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
Is there any reason those box looking things are on those side plastics? Thats a big reason the carpet isnt working, my plastics on either of my cars dont have those box things.
What youve done so far looks good, and everything is going where I thought it should.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
Ahh, thats where your problem is. My Seat Belts are up in the Headliner whereas yours are located behind the rear seats. I can snap a pic tomorrow when I get out of school for you. Ill snap a pic of my 86' that has carpeted plastics, and a pic of my 85' I just bought that has uncarpeted plastics. Both have the seatbelts in the Headliner.
Hopefully that'll be able to show you what Im talking about.
I should have them up and posted by lunch tomorrow for you.. Member

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
Yeah it was a factory option. I had one in my car until I took it out to put a sub box in there instead haha. Ill prolly be taking it out and putting it into the other car since my 86' is being turned into a street/strip car after my engine swap.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
and yes the one you sold me is in real good condition. i went to a lock smith and had the key remastered so that my door keys would open it. thanks for keeping all the hardware.
i had to build a bracket for it and when i take out the old carpet i will be able to weld it in, and only have the bolts sticking out. then i will cut down the bolts so that the other peices you were good enough to onclude will fit on and cover bolts. will look as good a factory.
you did give me everything i needed.
took a little time to fabricate the bracing, i used steel and wore out two drill bits cutting through but it will weld nicely and never bend or break.
thanks again

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
wow guys.... okay, you're all getting close. ALL 3rd gens have retractors in the roof for the front belts... 82-88 has rear lap belts with retractors on the outside of the rear seats and 89-92 have rear shoulder belts with the retractors behind the back seat.
Tony, the extra trim package that you bought was only originally available on the earlier 3rd gens that had rear lap belts. However, with some trimming, you can use it on your later model panels too. The 5th piece in your original picture of the kit is made to fit the passenger side of a lap belt equiped car. The curved part is positioned towards the front of the car and the straight part would continue to the rear of the plastic panel (covering the area where your rear seat belt retractors are located). You can cut it off where the retractor trim piece begins in your car. The 4th piece in the original picture is in the same location on the drivers side. It is longer so that it reaches all the way back to the beginning of the storage compartment door. For this piece, your retractor lines up right in the middle of the carpet section. You can cut it so that you have one section on each side of your retractor cover. It looks like you have the other 3 panels positioned properly.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
i can tell im going to need more carpet. i will need to make special fittings for the drivers rear glove box too. cant have it half plastic and half carpet.
anyone recommend a good glue to hold it all in? i will also need some good heat and noise shielding.
yes the carpet came with the oem stuff but a little extra heat shielding at the firewall and under both front seats will help and keep the noise down.
i dont mind taking my time and doing it wright. hell i waited 3 weeks just to get oem connectors for the transam leather seats which are both power and have lumbar supports. even made special wiring for the power and ground so it goes to the fuse box.
thanks everyone for the real help - like i said - i dont want to cut anything until i know exactly what i am doing with every piece. but i am getting a little antsy to get the main pieces in and then put those two strange ones in later.
i have been looking at the same stock interior for 19 years - yes i bought it new in feb 90;

maybe i can use velcro for the part around the box so that i can pull it off, but real good glue in the rear passenger seat area.
that will take some thought.
even my leather seats have the side brackets for the belt.
i will have to do something to class them up a little and i want to eliminate as much noise as possible so it a little more weight to fill in those empty places.
funny about noise. i rebuilt the entire suspension, everything. just went stock z - good enough for what im doing, and not the darn car squeeks. well i will find it. but it corners nice and is good and tight.
when this is over - then its the engine, since i have all the parts in the garage ready to go.

Re: CAN ANYONE TELL US WHERE THESE PIECES GO?
why'd you decide to go with the carpeted panels for the back? it definitely wasn't original to your car and it looks like your panels are in very good shape as they are. carpeting the rear retractor covers may look funny... i can't picture it in a way that looks good to me. I would install the carpet on the rear lid and leave it at that. If you're trying to reduce noise, your sound deadening would be most effective underneath the plastic panels adhered to the sheetmetal. As for adhesive, I'd recommend Permatex Heavy Duty Carpet and Trim Adhesive. I used it for recovering my t-top headliner and the stuff is very strong. Beware that it will stick the first time you press the carpet down, so position it carefully!

one other thing... you don't access the top mount for the rear struts through the rear shoulder belt trim piece! The only bolt accessed though there is the one that mounts the rear retractor. The shock mount is underneath the carpet (and under a foam cover) just inside of the large plastic panel on each side, very close to the striker bolt that the rear seat latches to when in the upright position.

so since it was there i wanted to put it on.
im a little tired of looking at plastic. it was a camaro standard because it was made as a throw away car, i know i bought 7 of them new, like i bought this one.
and i really dont care if it is stock anymore, this one is for me to drive not for me to sell.
but i dont like the look of the long side pockets, but the carpet over the trunk and the spare tire are fine with me.
i may just cut the longer one and put it over the drivers rear side for balance.
yes parts of the carpet are in great shape, and parts are not.
keep in mind my wiofe drove this one for 10 years. do you know what a car looks like when a woman with heels gets into a car every day? she uses her foot to push open the door.
door sills get spiked and broken.
carpets in the front turn to crap.
vents get broken, she cant be bothered with moving them without beating them to death.
women are darn hard on cars - and especially on carpets and interior trim.
that is why i have it now and why i am rebuilding the interior with leather, new carpets, new trim, because i want to be comfortable driving it.
i bought her a honda, she could not kill it with a gun.
