my take on the cup holder
you audiophiles will recognize this, Its a Subwoofer port, 5 bucks off ebay

I was helping my brother move and I grabbed his center channel and the woofer port popped out, and I swear I saw the light bulb come on in my head. I think my brother saw it too, because before I could even explain he knew and said "NO!" lol. So, I got on E-bay and found one for myself and I couldn't be happier and so began my latest mod

I cut the hole and popped it in. its the perfect size for a Pepsi can and it sits deep enough in there I don't hit it when shifting gears

Re: my take on the cup holder
I've been thinking of doing exactly that. My only concern is depth since I have the airbag module in that general area. Now that I know how it looks, I'll have to take some measurements for clearance.

Re: my take on the cup holder
listen and heed, if you have the air bag module in you center console, do not put a cup holder there unless you relocate the air bag module. biggest problem with cup holders is at least ONCE in their lives, liguid gets spilled in them, any liquid makse its way onto and into the air bag module, you have problems lol.

What about a bottom for that port? Isn't it open on both ends? Shouldn't the Pepsi can fall straight through?

Re: my take on the cup holder
My thoughts exactly, a little ABS epoxied to the bottom. What little liquid that would get down there isn't going to hurt anything - I've spilled countless cups of coffee over my console without any problems, thank goodness for lidded cups. Besides those sensors are pretty weather tight anyway, even the connector, and the only way for liquid to get inside would be from the bottom and travel up inside.

Re: my take on the cup holder
I've had the same thing in my turdmobile for years. With a soda can, it's perfect. It's also good for small item storage (smokes, cellphone, etc) instead of having to dig in the console or loose on the seat..
The depth from the top of the console to the bracket on the tunnel is 5".
I don't know how big (tall) the air bag module is, mines been gone for quite some time now. depending on size, the module may not have to be moved at all as I don't see to many other places to relocate it to. My 'cupholder' is only as deep as a pack of smokes (3.5"). A soda can will sit a just under the height of the console lid. It hasn't been an issue for me but, it my be different for an automatic.
I probably wouldn't have done it if I had a pristine car but, my console had what appeared to be a screwdriver hole punched in it anyways.
This solved two problems at once.

Lets hear it for us 91 and 92 Firebird owners who have cupholders on the doors! lol
But looks really good as long as you dont have the power mirror buttons there.

Re: my take on the cup holder
I would really recommend against using a subwoofer port as a drink holder. Anyone who has ever been on a boat knows they sell drink holders (any boat shop sells them)...OR you can buy them on ebay for $3 including shipping (at least this way you have a bottom on the darn thing!!).

Re: my take on the cup holder
yeah but when all you say is "your car is dirty clean it" its not a comment, its just rude.
after i did something constructive with my time and i was proud enough to show the whole world, and somebody makes a negative comment on something that is completely irrelevant, its just uncalled for.
especially for your first comment on these boards

Re: my take on the cup holder
If you want cupholders buy a mini-van they have about a dozen and it looks like you need a garbage hauler.
My interior with NO cupholders as a 3rd gen car should look like.

Re: my take on the cup holder

Not having cupholders is a pain, there's none in my S10. Wanting cup holders doesn't mean you should be driving a mini-van, it just means you like the convienace of being able to have a drink in your car without spilling it.
The late Firebird like mine had cupholdres on the doors, not the best ones but they did the job. So you can't say third gens were made to not have cup holders.

I don't know why forum users bother trying to defend themselves against fools who criticize, know everything, and act better than everyone else. Just ignore them, that's what they deserve. Wow, your interior is sooo clean, you're the best person in the WORLD!!!
