Seat options for a 3rd gen
Seat options for a 3rd gen
Hi my name is Kevin i'm new to the site, i recently picked up a 84 pontiac firebird, i'm just starting to get the interior back together after guting it to do some floor wor, the seats i have are old and worn, the drivers side has bite marks in it from the guys dog so the foam is pretty screwed, the interior is tan and black, so im ither going to go with one of the two colour. I am wondering what my options are, i know 4th gen seats bolt right in, but what about the second gen seats or the 1st, is it alot of work to make them fit? Has anyone ever put the apc bucket seats in? Im worried they will be to tall. Any sujestions? Please help !!!

I think the best option for the seats you posted a link to would be to weld them to your stock seat tracks. Might need some shims to make them sit right, though. They might look kinda bad with those holes in the back, unless you have 4 or 5-point belts.
2nd gen seats aren't directly interchangeable with third gen seats, but they would probably be easy to fit in, again, on your original seat tracks. At least easier than the other seats you posted a link to.

Be careful with APC seats, at least from my experience with them they were too high and didnt sit right in the car. I had to make my own brackets and i still couldnt get the sits low enough where my knees werent in the steering wheel. Just get measurements of the seats before you decide to buy them.

by far the most simple swap is 4th gen. seats . i have 4th gen. seats in my newest 3rd. gen. and really like them . i believe some of the other smaller g.m. cars seats will also fit . write down measurements , & check out local j/y's . happy hunting & good luck .

Uncle Tom, did you go to Cruising The Coast in 2008? All of the third gen camaros and firebirds looked rough to me. I'm bringing my 1992 Z there this year. It's in mint condition. Its black with the red heritage stripes. Maybe I'll see you there.

Check out the 4th gens. Especially the 98+, they had really comfy and good looking seats.

I have a flo fit seat in my camaro and absolutely love it. it is the grey one. you can see the height difference over stock cuz the passenger seat is stock. My brother spent the big bucks and got the real deal. (Recaros) (the black ones) they are very pricey and wont fit anyone over 200 lbs. after having both to compare, i would go flo fit all the way.
