How to get Manual Window Crank Off w/out ruining it

The crank you turn to put your windows down or up on a manual door, I Managed to get one off after a lot of pulling but it basically ruined it. There is a Metal pin or something that holds it on, the rest of it is just plastic. Anyways, i cant figure out how to release the pin. I have my door panels off and ready to put new ones on but need to get that off first.

You can use a flat screwdriver but they sell a tool for doing this and they don't cost alot .

It helps to have the tool, you can get them at the local auto parts stores.

Re: How to get Manual Window Crank Off w/out ruining it

You can do it for free also.... Here is a little trick I learned.

You take a rag, slide it behind the crank, so that the rag hits the points of the clip first. Then using a sawing motion, slide the rag back and forth slightly while pulling against the clip. The clip will catch on the rag, and when you pull against the clip, it will pop off.

My first car was a 67 Bonneville 4 door. So removing manual cranks became a frequent occurance with me. Embarassingly enough, it took me a few times screwing with needle nose pliers, trying to get the clips back in to realize you could install the clip, then pop the crank back on

Some old guy at a body shop showed me the rag trick, and its worked good for me.

You can also use a thin rag and slide it behind the handle and kind of slide it back and forth. It will pop the pin right out.
