Differences in 4th gen seat belts

Is there any differences in the seat belts used in 4th gens over the years besides the colors? I went to order some from GM and there is different part numbers for early 4th gens, then 97-99, and 00-02 has another part number, I'm thinking its just the trim color, but is that it?

Re: Differences in 4th gen seat belts

there is more to it. I parted out a 95 Camaro and I got seatbelts from a 01 or 02 Trans Am... the "blade" and receiver size is different between the 95 and the 01/02 belts. 95 has a wider blade than the 01/02. I believe both are a different size than the 3rd gen ones too.

sorry to tell you this, but they won't fit. I'm not really sure why GM changed the size so often. Try to find some LS1 years receivers to match them up with.

Well never mind, they do fit perfect. Retractors are the 00-02 style, I'm not sure what year of third gen my receivers came from but they are not the 83 style anymore, they are the style with the red plastic button..... but anyways the 00-02 style 4th gen retractor fits right into it no problems.

Just curious, how much did the retractors set you back?

Re: Differences in 4th gen seat belts

Well... I work at a GM dealer, i got my retractors replaced for the retractor recall since the lower portion of the stock ones didnt work too well either. The parts guy couldnt find any of the third gen ones in stock anymore so they replaced them with 4th gen units. Cost me nothing. I think my dealer cost would have been about $60 apeice if I bought them outright. Thats my employee cost though, would be a little more for someone buying them over the counter.

Re: Differences in 4th gen seat belts

very interesting. I could've sworn they were different than the receivers in my 84 T/A. I still have the original units lying around, I'll have to compare them again. Sorry to give you misinformation.

Re: Differences in 4th gen seat belts

Maybe there is something that is different, I guess i got lucky and picked the right ones. only problem is even though they are called black, they are not quite as black as I would like. In the parts catalog the drivers side is called ebony and the passenger side is called black. both are almost a very very dark charcoal color. won't interfere with my interior at all, I just wish they were a tad blacker.
