Gauge Cluster Swap in 86 Z28

I am looking to swap the gauge cluster in my 86 Z28 from an 85mph unit to a 145mph metric unit (which is listed as being for an 82-89 Camaro).

Is there any difference in the calibration of the gauge clusters between manual and auto? My car is a manual, and the new one is likely (not sure) from an auto. Will I need to make any modifications to fit it or will it be a plug and play job?

Should be plug and play, but the auto clusters won't have a bulb in the shift light socket. The wiring and circuit for it should still be there though, just no bulb. I've never worked on a camaro dash, but I know the firebird ones are that way, and I'm sure the camaro ones are also.

If your current cluster works as designed, I'd simply swap the speedo head and be done. Occasional electrical problems crop up in cluster swaps. Should the trip odometer not function (and it probably won't), check the following link for the fix:

Re: Gauge Cluster Swap in 86 Z28

The speedo and all the other gauges in the cluster work except for the tacho.

All the measurements on the cluster that I want to get are in metric - km/h, degrees C etc so I want to swap all of them.

I know that stuff like the gear ratios, diff ratio etc can affect how the cluster reads, so I am wondering if the speedo will need to be recalibrated for the different cluster.

Even though the auto and manual have different diff ratios?

Thanks mate, I will give it a go. I was a bit concerned that sticking a cluster from an auto into a manual might cause issues. Thanks for clearing things up.
